I am a bench-only guy Member 3, 10034 posts SQ 185, BP 175, DL 235595.0 kgs @ 140kgs UnEq Administrator | I had the first dose of the Oxford vaccine yesterday. No problems apart from one episode of shivers overnight, which I assume was Bill Gates figuring out how to control my limbs.

He said it was more uncomfortable when they inserted the microchip afterwards.

My wife (healthy, works with vulnerable people) has had 1 dose of Oxford and was a bit rough the following day but otherwise fine. My step mother (50+, some minor health issues, works in a care home) has had both doses of the Pziser vaccine. Spent a day in bed very rough after the 2nd dose, but was otherwise fine.

It's been a massive effort, but it's worth noting that other than supplying the vaccine, there hasn't been much government involvement. The burden has fallen to the NHS and upto a couple of weeks ago, it was solely GP surgeries booking in the appointments (My Mrs works for a group of GP surgeries and pretty much everyone not directly doctoring was spending 10 hours a day, every day booking appointments)

Little bit. It's noticeable that almost all the stuff - most obviously test and trace, but also things like PPE procurement - given out to private "partners" has been extremely expensive and generally incompetent to the point of near fraudulence, and the one thing left to the NHS to do has gone very well indeed, I think.

They don't deliver this out of the surgeries directly. They still book the appointments in, but the CCG have one or two centres per area where they can administer the pfizer vaccine (Barnsley has two local hubs, one to the east of the town and one to the west). With the Oxford vaccine, they are running their own clinics in surgery and the district nurses are out jabbing people in the community (much like they do with the flu vaccine)

still a devious weightlifting bastard Member 43, 14374 posts | 51YO with no health issues, and got my appointment for the first jab on Saturday. Looks like either they are well in front in my area, a lot of people have refused it, or I do have a medical issue. I hope it's the first one. 6 mile walk to the Halliwell stadium, get my jab, over the road to Decathlon to pick up my click and collect hiking socks, and a run home. All very exciting. This isn't just life. It's an adventure.
