Mighty Mr Boar. This is gonna be one of those TLWinkR posts but it's to give a bit of my experience before you decide or not decide to make the leap.

My wee furries creatures are called Degus. They're an exotic pet from the south Americas and being considered an exotic are a quite a wee bit of work. They're quite frail (especially the tails which tear off easily) and have really specific dietary needs (they're diabetic) amongst a few other bits and bobs. The reason I have the little buggers is because I have a fair whack of time on my hands and I ain't got no fans etc.
They're amazing little f**kers with a complex social structure, plenty of intelligence (I'd say close to a dogs) and a drive to chewing giant holes in everything. For this reason before taking the leap ,I decided to read a couple of books on them and joined a couple of forums just to make sure they were for me. I believe this amount of thought and prep is essential for Degus in particular.
Even though they're social, they don't much like being handled or clapped and definitely not picked up unless they climb onto you theirself. They require quite a bit of space (my small cage is 6ft tall!) and a big run to explore inside for an hour or preferably 2 every day to meet their entertainment needs.
For me to do a proper job on their cage once weekly takes me about 2 to 3 hours because of the size and disinfecting process etc. and unfortunately this is a must as they're very prone to infections of the mouth, ear and eye.

The little buggers apart from all of this specific care though are an absolute hoot, very adventurous and entertaining to watch. The other plus side is that they live up to 15 years so you've got a good wee pal for quite some time. You can train them to do all sorts of things also which is ace.

Mr Nick, thanks Happy I'm doing them open letters to the goons of the world like what them womans says to the Russell Brands 'n' that, innit!!

I walked in on the aftermath of a 4 year old who'd got his hands on coffee today which was enjoyable. I also got diabetes after an old lady gave me a bag of treacle sweeties and the girl from down the road brought me shortbread and carrot and parsnip soup. These things were also enjoyable. The diabetic fever and cold sweats were not enjoyable. I had to stop playing Minecraft on my private server to go to bed where I am now having an episode of s**t breathing. This is also not enjoyable. When I wake up in the morning I should be fine.

QUESTION: What do you call a dog with a hare lip?

ANSWER: Mark Mark.

The rat babies got a box fort stuffed with wrapping paper this year. They're much more impressed with it compared to last years snuggle bag and various ladders and tunnels.

Linwood wants to know where her barbell is though.
