Strictly speaking, you should not be using your biceps hardly at all if your arms are perfectly straight? Does the injury come when there is a concentration lapse and a slight 'curl' motion happens whilst pulling, thus recruiting the bicep?

In short - can it be completely avoided by using exemplary form and concentrating on not bending the elbows?

I think you are correct, its only if you bend at the elbow during the lift that you can tear your bicep. At least on a standard barbell anyway, Ive heard that Axle Deadlift is more taxing on your bicep but I dont know if this is true or why.

If a mixed grip is used, I think there is torque on the bicep of the underhand arm?

ie, even with no arm bend, it can happen

maybe, I dunno

Hmmm interesting. I remember seeing a vid of a member on here and his bicep tore from the elbow as he was at the top position of the deadlift. I can't understand how it happened because the bicep is pretty much flaccid at that point?

I think axle deffo is when a 'cupped' grip is used.

The only problem is I usually rip the barbell from the floor as hard and fast as possible so any momentum can carry through my sticking points. I fear that all this paranoia will slow the lift down. Unhappy

Axle is also because of the grip factor the natural thing to do is pull a bit with your arms.

Yes! I have changed my tyre technique after seeing Wayne's pop at Cheshire's and I am also wary of strapless axle deads now... though its been a long time since I have done them anyway.

Oh, I have seen a bicep go at a powerlifting comp too. The individual was stuggling to lock out his deadlift and used a bit of biceps to try and finish the lift.
