Anyone who reads my log, and now, anyone who does not, will be aware that the room was stunned to silence tonight when we were told a supposed tip to make weight if a pound or two over.

I consider it madness, but that does not mean it is incorrect. I am too old and too fat for this, but I would be in the debt of anyone young enough and fit enough to try and accurately report the results.

Step onto some scales and record your weight.
Step off the scales.
Stand on your head (presumably in the same way schoolgirls used to, by kicking their feet against a wall)
Stay inverted for at least one minute.
Cease being inverted and step onto the scales as quickly as possible and record your weight.

We are told, with apparent sincerity that you will be a pound or two lighter.

I am of the opinion (as are others) that if nothing falls out of or off you, you cannot possibly be any different.

If anyone of an adventurous nature and with an enquiring mind would care to try and report back, I would be grateful.

If no-one does - I quite understand.

I have also heard this tale, but with one important addition.

The point of standing on your head is to get as much blood volume into your head and torso as possible.

Then when you step on the scale you lean your upper body and head forward away from your centre of gravity.
This apparently unevenly loads the scale causing it to under read a little.

I've never tried this however.....

There's also the blood drain method. I'm going to try this now.

A more useful tip would be.

Go to the toilets and knock one out. It will probably be more effective due to the loss of bodily fluid. You still won't make weight but it's more fun than standing on your head. Grin

It was actually told to us by somebody of that name.

Personally, I believe in conservation of mass. But BigMacca's additional information sites make it less absurd, I suppose.

You would have the same effect by doing exactly the same thing but without standing on your head first, just lean a touch further, that would be easier to check, but unfortunately my scales are upstairs so I have no way of checking.

If it does work I imagine it will depend more on the type of scales than standing on your head first.

Damn. I now want to try this.

I am 100% sure it should not work and I have a giant feeling we're all just being trolled.

Did you do the leaning forward thing?

I assumed we were being trolled but it seemed to work, I leant forward but I leant forward before the headstand and nothing changed.

Chris I tried but it turns out I can't hold a one hand headstand and operate a camera at the same time.
