Sugdens crazy old person. Member 4936, 7288 posts SQ 270, BP 155, DL 270695.0 kgs @ 100kgs UnEq | This morning, my friends set up a farmers carry in 9 feet of water. I did not participate in this odd event. A question was asked to me if the carried metal weights were lighter in water? I said no. They disagreed. I realize that humans would be lighter because of oxygen in the body. So if you are a 100Kilo person carrying 100Kilo in 9 feet of water, what would be the total weight? Is there a calculation for this? Thank you for your time. Billy

the ferryman will always need his coin. Member 1085, 408 posts SQ 220, BP 175, DL 285680.0 kgs @ 94kgs UnEq | Archimedes principal explained It will be lighter relative to the weight of water it displaces https://www.britannica.com/science/Archimedes-principle

Mask it or Casket !! Member 4600, 8166 posts SQ 240, BP 162.5, DL 255657.5 kgs @ 90.5kgs UnEq | Err...Id guess an object will weigh the same...however, water produces an upward force/ buoyant force? If there is little buoyancy then err...you have still displaced water which I think happens is the weight of the water displaced is the same as the upward force...so Id guess you moving the object minus its weight in water??? In short ask Achiboldmedis...Eureka!

Still got a little bit of strength Member 400, 22043 posts | Upward force is equal to weight of fluid displaced. 'Fluid' can be liquid or gas. A helium balloon would be on the ground in a vacuum.

some nice relaxing jazz. Member 77, 12599 posts SQ 265, BP 165, DL 280710.0 kgs @ 93kgs UnEq | The mass of the load, and the weight, will remain the same The resultant force is changed, as others have alluded to, due to buoyancy.

Interesting Member 6186, 245 posts | Rocky trained in thick snow, ran through ice puddles, pulled sledges, did serious pull ups and serious sit ups and grow a beard in Rocky IV... How hardcore is this going to get ? Training underwater will just rust a good barbell and a good set of plates. Water is for swimming in and for fish and the ducks. If you are really cool and look like an extra from Point Break maybe surfing but not powerlifting or weightlifting or strongman events unless your Rocky.

Sugdens crazy old person. Member 4936, 7288 posts SQ 270, BP 155, DL 270695.0 kgs @ 100kgs UnEq | Might as well try it in the ocean, so I can spike myself in the ocean. After that, I can wrestle my mate and hold them under til they almost lose breath. Sorry about the soup Danny! Never though about a rusty bar result. Dumb arses rusting their bars and plates thank you all for the great replies. Would you try it though??
