Shows how at the top level, being f**king strong is what really makes the difference. Imo they got the weight of the squat and shield wrong, a shield carry shouldn't be won with 30m, just let them take it off a barrel, so much more impressive to watch.

The handles/sort of grooves were very high up, making it harder to pick up and harder to hold, which is probably the reason rich just grabbed them and walked backwards

9x WSM finalist! Member 662, 3372 posts | I also enjoyed it more than the heats! Thought it was a good show! Agree with the comments with regards the shield and squat! Although I think the shield it was more the size of it than the weight. Having so many guys getting zero on the squat kind of f**ks the points up! Ed was impressive and solid on all the events! Felt really bad for Paul Carter on the axle! Is it just me or does everyone feel the comp should have had a deadlift somewhere in it?

The heats had deadlift hold, which in my modest opinion, is a poor event for spectators, and although different made it two holds (crucifix) in the heats.

Ken was on fire, even though I knew the results, I thought he looked like he was gonna win it. Could he have won if it he got a better result on the shield I wonder? A deadlift event would have been good Terry, but at the end of the day, the 16 strongest guys in the UK were there and had a great battle.

I know! I don't fall into that! I thought it was a good showcase of some good up and coming British Strongmen! We definitely have a great crop of youngsters with ed, Ken, Rich, Jack etc! The UK's is good experience for guys getting used to the TV and the multiple days of competition

technical retard Member 172, 36827 posts SQ 310, BP 205, DL 335850.0 kgs @ 108kgs UnEq | the shield was poorly made, meaning the guys could hold it, as you normally would with a shield. Hence, seeing guys toddle backwards for 15m....not great TV I thought Ken came across very well indeed on the TV....articulate and very humble. I also though Glenn was much much better in his presenting skills for the final...loved his enthusiasm for the events

Grass fed Member 1147, 7710 posts SQ 220, BP 185, DL 272.5677.5 kgs @ 113kgs UnEq | Ken, why didn't you do the shield like Ed? Just asking as that event pretty much cost you it didn't it? Not saying you should have won it, but you certainly could have!

One thing I will say is how the how hard the stones look not sure if it was the heightsg or the run ins or a combination but was surprised how many struggle lapping the 160k stone. I guess it was down to fatigue after the rest of the final.
