My bench press is poor, I know Member 5816, 28 posts SQ 180, BP 137.5, DL 235552.5 kgs @ 96kgs UnEq | Well I was just wondering if it's a good exercise and what you guys think of it as I don't see it much on here. As I'm going to attemptmy first vid and I'm not sure whether to put my straight bar pb or my trap bar pb (deadlifts)

As I'm going to attemptmy first vid and I'm not sure whether to put my straight bar pb or my trap bar pb (deadlifts) I like the trap bar, I don't compete in any strength sports that require regular deads so I've ditched them complete for now. My bar has two sets of handles low ones at regular dead height and higher ones about 12" (maybe 15", I've never measured). Usually I use the higher ones, no real reason I just prefer that height. Does it inflate my numbers? Yes a little but not as much as you may believe. Judge for yourself. Yeah I'm s**t a videos.

Mask it or Casket !! Member 4600, 8166 posts SQ 240, BP 162.5, DL 255657.5 kgs @ 90.5kgs UnEq | i dont like trap bar, first time i used...I once had 220k tarp bar grip hold at an u105s... about 10 years ago, didn't balance it and came second to last which peed me off no end because my grip is all-day-long do you hear me alll-day-long and balance robbed me! ...but i did herd (easier to keep a straight back) its a grand exercise for back recovery work.

#biggef Member 5263, 3492 posts SQ 260, BP 195, DL 260715.0 kgs @ 130kgs UnEq | my humble opinion...I'd say it's great for variation or training around injury,I find trap bar squattish, so personally wouldn't put it above rack pulls deficit or sldl for example but a great exercise in itself.

Hamstrings feel activated. Member 1107, 6964 posts SQ 220, BP 152.5, DL 252.5625.0 kgs @ 93kgs UnEq | Post Edited: 06.02.2017 @ 16:03 PM by JohnGym I do two heavy Deadlift days each week. For the last 8 weeks or so I've used the Trap Bar (low handle) at the end of each session. Since using it I've found I'm much better at using my legs during conventional Deadlift than I have ever been in the past. It's early days mind you but I'm fully expecting a PB before the summer. I rate it as an assistance exercise.

You pull 'in the line of gravity' with your body; you're not forced over the bar like on a normal oly bar deadlift And if like me normal deadlifts play havoc with your back/hips/pelvis; the trap bar is a god-send! Ok, if you're competing in powerlifting, it'll not help you to work your deadlift line, but it will allow you to handle heavier weights and build core strength from that; so once a week conventional, once a week trap bar would be a good worker etc Trap bars are great for clean and presses too Believe me, it hurts when it hits you...

Mines a heavy duty strength shop, it cost about £200. It's rated up to 400kg, the cheaper ones tend to have a lower rating which I don't feel is enough. I guess it depends on how much weight you think you'll be using.

Ideally get the measurements before you buy one too... Steve at Reps got one and it can hold 220kg max with their 25kg plates Make sure the one you get has long enough pins to hold at least a decent amount of weight!
