Tony | Training around a shoulder injury | 27-10-2007 @ 17:07

So far squatting, pressing, cleaning and snatching have all been ruled out. Leaving me with limited scope for a routine. How have you guys managed to train around injurys, shoulder ones in particular?

To be honest i'd stay away from snatch and stick with power cleans, fronties, back squat, deads, chins. Maybe use this oportunity to increase fitness level if you think it's needed. Cant think of much more movement you could throw in, unless you're ready to go 'fresher'

Scotbasher - forever Member 59, 2115 posts | How about doing hack squats on a machine or smith machine, its pretty close to a normal squat interms of movement and range of motion. This will help keep your squat in some kind of reasonable shape. If you haven't seen a proper physio yet about your shoulder then now is probably a good time, identifying the problem now will make the road to recovery much swifter IMO. Hope it recovers soon

One Sexy MoFo Member 101, 2470 posts | That injury sounds officially gay. I read your journal; since when had squats become out of the question? I'd be hitting things (with my non-injured arm) right now if I was you. In all honesty, if it's got that bad, f**king see someone about it. I can pawn your 292.5kg trophy if you want?

One Sexy MoFo Member 101, 2470 posts | Ok Tony, just read about your aborted squats. That reinforces what I said in my previous post: SEE SOMEONE ABOUT IT. You must be f*cking pissed off right now. It doesn't sound like you can just work around it, mate.

Squatting with a safety squat bar. If you can find one try a belt harness to do hack squats. Even try a manta ray so you change the level of stress on the shoulder. I even tried a weird front squat device that held the bar for me - damn that was weird. None of it has replaced the big 3, but it keeps the strength level ticking over nicely and the variations on all the work has even been fun. Though I do get funny looks sometimes dragging tractor tyres a local field PS - I'll add my voice to the crowd - see someone to get it fixed
