They were good times at Uni.

Yeah I think I held the british record for all of ten minutes, it was fairly uninspiring really.

Least you held it buddy.

Just catching up with a few things so in response to some of the messages from a few days ago.

Matt - Shame for me that I didn't manage 17 on the day but for a few reasons(as with everyone else - heat, the first three events, lack of hitching, disallowed reps, etc.) I only got to 12. About my comp experience, I've competed quite a few times but never manage to get decent momentum.

Will - Cheers and I hope that your family circumstances have improved.

Jamie - Cheers mate but as you'll see, despite the fact that I DID train, it wasn't close to being enough.

I'll copy and paste my write up from the comp page.

Absolutely gutted. I started off the day with aims to finish somewhere around the top six but just kept missing out on points by a rep here or a second there. The battle for mid table positions, from event to event, was tighter than I can ever remember - or at least it felt that way.

Event rundown

Farmers (actually a 200kg frame carry)

By far my best event of the day. Covered the 20 meters in 8.67 seconds which, despite the light weight, I was pretty pleased with because they only stopped the clock when the frame was actually past the line AND on the floor. Good enough for 3rd. Flash France lived up to the name by winning the event in 8.14 seconds.

Tyre Flip

Glen said that he didn't mind tacky being used so I thought it would help. Unfortunately, after plastering it all over both paws, I found out that I would probably have had more grip with veg oil on my hands. 7 flips in 75 secs which was nothing compared to Jack's 15 flips.

Log

Wasn't expecting much so at least this one wasn't a surprise. Ended up with 90kg . Winner got about 115kg. As you'd expect 90kg got me nowhere near the business end. About half the field got 100kg+.

Axle Deadlift

12 reps with a 180kg 2 inch bar. Again, this got me nowhere. Joe won the event with 19 reps but you needed 14 to score points (only the top 10 on each event scored any points). EDIT: Forgot to mention, actually did 14 but got two disallowed for hitching . My head went at this stage because I always hitch the last few reps on DL for reps. It was the first SM comp that I've ever watched or competed in where hitching hasn't been allowed. Having said that, tons of people got reps disallowed for either one or more of the following: hitching/ramping/shoulders not being back/knees not locked/you name it.

The ref was an IPF qualified ref and reffed to those rules at lockout.

Medley

Very light but I just wasn't quick enough on the day.

Clearly, my muscular endurance is absolutely crap as is my shoulder strength. I was aware of the second problem but didn't know about the first until yesterday.

Three comps this year and three crap performances. I'm only going to enter comps in the future after I've put a good run of training in.

I'm aiming to get a 115 log and 280kg DL by Feb 2010. I WON'T compete unless I get to a bare minimum of 110/270.

Not a lot - because I've always trained squats ATG - 170kg.

It would be nice to get a 200kg ATG raw squat.
