u80
u90
u105
open

u105 natural
open natural

is there an under 90 natural class aswell

thats not to mention any others

I have said before, i dont agree with the term "natural" anyway, but if it was tested properly and called "tested" instead then fair enough, at the moment it has no credibility based on last years absence of testing imo

How is it any harder for a u80 to do u90, or a u90 to do u105 and it is for a guy at 120 to do open?

When listed like that it looks a nonsense to have all those catagories then draw the line at a 120, which I really dont think would damage the sport at all

EDIT: and imo there is only 1 BSM and it will be the open winner. If any other one was strong enough they could do the open. All the other winners in SM tend to mention the weight class anyway, so it is not an issue imo.

looks like 75% are in agreement for a 120 class according to the pole.

120kg class would suit my build better. I use to struggle with health chasing 130kg+ but that's just my build, it doesn't mean there should be a class to suit.... although if there are lower classes close together then why not.

In certian comps I used to struggle with being at a lighter body weight. The UK's are a prime example where if you where big and heavy it would suit. With other comps I was alot more competitive often beating guys with 20kg on my body weight.

So in short I agree with the class, try it!!!

shanejer said:I think the reason lighter weigh classes help is because people like me and Hixxy I know would of never ever got involved if it was open only !

It opens the sport up to more people.

But I think a 120 class would see people already involved (light opens heavy 105 guys) don't see it hurting but also don't see if taking off massively

I would say that neither of you "love" strongman then

When I started SM at Milly's there was no established 105 comps (I tell a lie, there was londons 105, so one a year).....if you were small and/or weak, you just did intermediate level comps, such as Bobs Barnard Castle comps

Maybe some fun comps at u120 but not bringing in all the qualifiers and nationals and such for this weight class. I have to agree with JC at 19+ stone if you can't do most of the events at opens then you shouldn't do it simple as! Train harder get stronger and come back.

EDIT: the argument that it could push the opens guys like u90s did for 105s is bulls**t if the guys at 120 start pushing the opens guys to do better they should of done opens in the first place IMO.

Surely if 120kg increases the amount of people that enter the comps, and the enjoyment then its never a bad thing. I think if you try it and its not popular then oh well don't do it again , but if its a hit then it surely cant do any harm ?

i don't see much point for a 120kg class as such. it's only in the top comps in the country or the world that you get very large humans (the brian shaws and terry hollands of this world). plus, it's only in the past couple of years that there have been more very big guys but i'd say that was more to do with height than weight. if you're under 6ft your never gonna be 160kg+. sadler and lalas have only ever been 120-135kg and they are still up with the best. and most of the guys around 6ft2in are 150 max. 120kg weight class won't mean a lighter comp would just stop taller people entering IMO. look at some of the 105 guys, they are pretty much just as strong as the top opens! as some ppl have said, if your not strong enough there are inter and novice comps. i've not competed in strongman but i would just do an inter comp if i didn't want to go against stronger ppl. but i just want to get stonger before i compete in it.

but... i have nothing against it. if it helps strongman then it's cool.

although i did vote no! lolGrin

There aren't many inter comps really though are there? It's kind of a neither here nor there category. Maybe thats the answer though, more inter comps so that the inbetweeners (!) have some comps that aren't weight classed.

Thing is, everyone agrees there should be weight classes or we wouldn't have 80s, 90s and 105s. So why not another one that is a stepping stone for those who want to compete but aren't up to the level of the opens but too heavy for 105s? Or maybe all the weight categories need moved up a bit instead.
