As you can see I'm new to this forum, but have been viewing it for a while now and thought I might as well get involved.

I'm 29 and currently live in Barnsley. I'm 6'2" and I currently weigh about 100kg which is steadily increasing.

I'm new to the powerlifting and strongman scene having never trained anything like it before. I have played rugby up until August 2010 where I smashed my shoulder onto a hard pitch in a pre season friendly causing a grade 3 AC joint separation! Painful and recovery went s**t where they didn't think surgery was the best option, although I had to have a steroid/cortisone injection in August 2011 due to niggling soreness/pain and slow recovery..

After my injection I decided to start strength training again with my shoulder feeling alot better, and retiring from rugby. I needed a new sport, something to focus on and my mate and one of my bro's were into powerlifting style training so I thought I'd give it a go and from August 2011 started on Rip's Starting Strength. I had previously done BB type training every so often but not consistent, and I had never trained my legs, squatted or deadlifted before!

I've tried various strength training methods...

My big lifts are still increasing well so I thought I'd start this thread to log my progress.

First session back after a few days off due to the birth of my first child Imogen Esme Walker on Sunday GrinGrin!!
I tested 5/3/1 on everything due to missing my other 2 sessions this week, so an all round session.

Trained at The Junction Gym this afternoon.

Thanks mate. Yeah my deadlift is by far my strongest lift. I might try jerking it, my pressing seems to be getting stronger, just need to keep it up...Happy

Deadlift and events day.

Trained this afternoon at The Junction Gym with my mate Sob, helping him train for Yorkshire's Strongest Novice in May.

Deads

187.5 x 6 PB - More in there, but didn't want to use all my energy! 531 target was only 3.

Also pulled the VW Golf for an easy rep at 180-200 lol Grin

50 x F - so close to lock out but had to drop it..
53 x F - thought I'd give Circus one a go as smaller shape than tyre, again very close to lockout but not quite there.

Axle Dead (first time)

210 x F a few times, weight wasn't the problem, grip was with my left hand, was pissed off with this. Tried straps too but never used them before so need more practice. Should've lowered the weight but time was running out.

Need to practice with axle and work up, gripping it definitely the issue.

Axle Press (first time)

65 x 3
85 x F - got the bar up no problem, press wasn't there.
105 x F - obviously wasn't going to press it, tried getting bar up but very tired and couldn't. Need a better belt to rest it on.

Overall mixed feelings on session, fairly happy though.

Cheers Sam. I'm considering competing but don't think I could do the overheads! My mate is doing it and I'm helping him train for it so we'll see.

I may have to come down the odd Saturday if I can get a pass! Happy
