New Year, New Log, New Focus, same old Fu-FuGrin

No concrete goals as yet, although the 300lb overhead is what Im going to be working towards the most. My focus on powerlifting has been fun, but its time to turn myself back into an athlete. That means more athletic type movements, cleans, overhead squats, jerks, front squats and sprints etc.

3 things I mustn't forget:
- Prehab
- Grip
- Core Work

First workout of 2007 was yesterday, felt like death going into the gym and didnt get much better whilst I was there, although all things considered, this wasnt a terrible workout.

Wednesday 3rd January

Deadlifts
60kg x 8
100kg x 5
140kg x 3
180kg x 1
200kg x 1
220kg x 1,1,1,1,1

Overhead Squats
20kg x 8
30kg x 8
40kg x 8
50kg x 3,3,4 - Strength not a problem, balance will improve with practice.

Curl Grip Pulldowns
105kg x 6
119kg x 6,6,6

Ab Pulldowns
49kg x 8,8,8

I was bolloxed after this. Absolutely bolloxed.

committed to enter that scottish novice strongman comp?

Good overall plan and ethos mate - and i dont think it will eat to your PL total too much either being more well rounded strength athlete.

Good luck!

are those movements more technique based (i.e. aim to master the technique rather than more n more weight)or will they build the same strength ,just in different ways.

good luck fu fu !!

Good to see you back. I seen no mention of the wrods 'strong' or 'man' anywhere in there though.

And I'll race you to that 300lbs overhead if you like?

Core work innit!

Olly if you're interested in getting a sled (maybe the B&Q method like you mentioned) I'm willing to chip in and I'm sure Haris would be. Could be useful for all our goals. Haris can keep it in his garage and we can run around Chervil Close with it.

Could be interesting. Do many powerlifters do this?

I think theres an article about it on PLUK that looks good.

Good lucky Olly Happy

Cheer guys and girls! Millsy, strongman is the focus! I just need to work out how.

Missed Fridays session due to illness. I want to actually get over this one before I go too mental, rather than just plugging away and keeping the f**king thing for a month.

Tokar, always loved overhead squats, good fun, great for the core and flexibility, and Ive always fancied a run at the Danny John Bw x 15 goal. Who knows? Maybe this year's the year.

Joni, im quite fluey, hacking cough, cold like symptoms, massive swings in body temperature, mostly on the hot side of things followed by a few minutes shivering. Basically, a nasty manfluWink

Millsy, more than happy to race you mate, although I suspect you're a country mile ahead. Unless you plan on taking up marathon running, you got that one in the bag.

Boar, I guess they are more technique based than the powerlifts, but the emphasis will still be on getting stronger at them. Hopefully the focus will help me get back to my more athletic days. Only this time a hell of a lot stronger.

Sunday 7th January

Still felt like s**t going in today, but needed to get out of the house and blow away a few cobwebs. Wasnt a bad workout in the end.

Hang PC
50kg x 3,3,3
60kg x 3,3
70kg x 3,3,3,3,3 - pulling with my arms on some reps, but some were nice.

Overhead Squats
20kg x 15
40kg x 10,10,10

Front Squats
60kg x 5
80kg x 5
90kg x 5
80kg x 5

Then did 5x5 on the machine shoulder press and 3 sets of 10 on the machine row. 3 sets of 20 on the back extension and 3 sets of 12 on the ab crunch machines. Finished off with ~15 minutes stretching and a 500m row.

Tuesday 9th January

NG 4 Boards
60kg x 10
80kg x 5
100kg x 5
110kg x 3
120kg x 1,0
110kg x 3,4

Missing the 120kg rep is probably the lowest point ive reached in years. It sucked big time. Thats it. No more f**king s**t. I should be doing 10s with that.

BTN Push Press
50kg x 5
60kg x 5
70kg x 5
80kg x 4

DB Floor Press
25kg x 10
30kg x 10
35kg x 10

Then did 3 sets of 12 face pulls and finished off with a 500m sprint on the rower, time = 1.27, not bad at all, although it nearly killed me.

Conclusion, being ill sucks.
