Does f*ck all for SugdenBarbell.co.uk Member 1, 7173 posts SQ 182.5, BP 110, DL 205497.5 kgs @ 107kgs UnEq Administrator | After Alex confessed the cause of his current shoulder niggle to me on Messenger in the early hours, I thought it was time for a good thread detailing the stupidest ways (e.g. cycling down big holes) you have injured yourself. Mine include: - Slight pec strain squeezing brine out of a tin of tuna - Strained intercostal muscle pulling wheeley bin down drive - Strained left elbow drinking milk I won't spoil Alex's one, suffice to say it's a good one

I am a bench-only guy Member 3, 10034 posts SQ 185, BP 175, DL 235595.0 kgs @ 140kgs UnEq Administrator | Alex's *is* a good one. My recent one: stiff and sore back after leaning over slightly to pick up a pill (I think it was a fish oil one).

left the country satisfied Member 10, 19241 posts SQ 240, BP 150, DL 270660.0 kgs @ 107kgs UnEq | define "gay" injury - i really dont understand this gay this gay that and it pisses me off - what do you have against gays? ok, analyzing: i guess you mean perverse injury because of their oddity and call all gays perverts, or maybe you just mean that gays are odd or weird, so odd or weird injury is a gay one. Or maybe gays are hilarious, and these are hilarious injuries. Why not start a thread called "n***er injuries", like limping, talking funny and other stereotypes? i know no one means it in any bad way when they call things gay, and i am not accusing you rob for being homophobic or anything, just repeating common homophobic and anti-gay expressions, much like in not too distant past people did with racist impressions (and many still do in south africa for instance).

Easiest way to break your arm or sod your shoulder up. Joni, I think you need to appreciate that the word 'gay' no longer just means homosexual - it has come to mean different things in our society today - even as gentle as "unusual" or "silly". It is no slight on gay people themselves. Indeed, the word didn't even originate from homosexuals. These things have happened with many hundred of descriptive words in the past and continue to do so. It is simply how language grows and evolves. When I wrote the title thread I didn't think of a homosexual person, because there is no need to look at things that deeply or sensitively. It's overkill.

MIA Member 7, 621 posts SQ 80, BP 45, DL 125250.0 kgs @ 55kgs UnEq | Put my back out being judo thrown by adam on the kitchen floor As for the name of the thread thing - I agree with your point of view Rob, in particular, different words mean different things in different contexts. But additionally, words not used in a derogatory sense maybe read as such by other people. I'm personally not offended, however I know people who would be offended by the title. Additionally, I know people who would relish the title because of its connotations towards degrading homosexuality (in their homophobic opinion). Therefore would not have used it myself; why offend people unless its to provoke, or make a very good joke?

Well said. Joni, I probably more than most people appreciate your strong and usually well-considered moral stance on things generally, but I think you just need to loosen up on this one. The fact is, using the word "gay" in the way Rob has categorically does not imply any homophobia, latent or otherwise. It just doesn't. I really think you're edging towards the dangerous tendency of seeing prejudices in order to be outraged by them.
