The fed I'm thinking of competing in uses a deadlift bar .. I've never used one I have access to Texas power bars and eleiko weightlifting bars ... At present my estimated 1rm on an eleiko is around 255-260 based on triples and fours recently, normally I'm about 2.5-5kg down on a Texas power bar from the eleiko in mid 200s although haven't tested it absolutely. If I'm pulling about 260 approx on an eleiko WL bar what does everyone think that will equate to on a deadlift bar ... I'm stronger on lockout than the floor on the whole .

There is one way to find out. I would roughly guess at 7.5-10kg but it could easily be more or less.

I get absolutely loads out of a deadlift bar because of sumo

Tried the texas dl bar last night for 1st time and I struggled. Pulled nowhere near what I was expecting, dunno if I need practice or the flexibility takes out the speed from the floor for me?

I went from pulling on bendy weightlifting bars, to a stiff eleiko bar and at first it was a huge struggle. Now it feels strange when I don't use that bar.

For a complete bell like me though, can someone explain the most common bars used in powerlifting comps?

I don't know anything about all these different types of bars.

I've only pulled on rigid bars, generally of the cheap variety.

I guess this will be the only real way unless I can get somewhere in advance to check things out .. Probably go for conservative numbers and see whether it's up down or about the same .. Then will be able to work things out on going from there

So what's the solution ... We only have bumpers .. Maybe doing some speed work with Texas power bars and bumpers, and mixing between the 2 bars to get used to a bit of bend and a bit of extra stiffness .. ? Maybe doing some 1inch deficit stuff to take out extra bend on eleiko WL bar .. When I went to see Andy for some coaching a while back we used a WL bar but with old skool cast iron plates non of these health and safety bumpers, I tend to mix between Texas power and eleiko WL

Btw I damaged my shoulder being a dick benching 175kg for reps with a bison WL bar loaded with bumper plates.

I think you're overworrying. there won't be much difference having trained myself on ipf bar then used a dl bar in comp. ultimately you're going to be tired by deadlift time assuming full power and if you train DL in its own session that will probably be more of a variance. Open with something know you can 3RM on a stiff bar and pick 2/3rd attempts off how easy or hard that feels
