Getting fat is just as dumb as using PED's Member 3387, 2532 posts SQ 275, BP 200, DL 290765.0 kgs @ 114kgs UnEq | Pain relief they are can be good, they don't help with recovery though.

Member 2793, 523 posts SQ 245, BP 175, DL 302.5722.5 kgs @ 84kgs UnEq | I've not read anything solid about TENS helping with recovery, but they have worked very well with pain relief, as stimulation of the Alpha-Beta fibres 'closes' the 'pain gate'. Then again, I suppose reducing the pain could help with recovery, as you could then better mobilise the damaged muscle(s), which is crucial to recovery. Much of pain and recovery is psychological (and more complex than I fully understand), so if it works for you, just crack on with it... in my opinion.
