You heard it right folks!

Hope you are all doing well in good old England.

Got into Melbourne this morning after a flight from Washington to New York, then New York to Manchester, then Manchester to Dubai, then Dubai to Melbourne. Have had no sleep, have not trained in two weeks, and have been eating s**tty American food for the past few days.

Already walked round most of the city centre. The people here are so much more active - walking, running, cycling, rowing. No wonder they do so well at sports. My sports med place where I have my placement is in the main sports area right next to the main stadium. Will be starting there tomorrow.

Already bought myself some bargain protein. EAS tub of whey for $34 which works out to be about 13 quid. Will be training with the University powerlifting society hopefully tomorrow evening as well.

There website in case you are interested is:

http://powerlifting.musa.net.au/

Anyway, will keep you updated on the progress. Berto I will try and get Harold Bishop to wear the sugden t-shirt and write you a Valentine's card as well.

Over and out.

Hey mate top stuff! Glad you're liking it, I'm sure you'll have a hoot.

It's a great country - enjoy it while you're there because by the end you won't want to come back!

And do say hi to Harold for me.

First day training with the club yesterday.

Hadn't trained in about 2-3 weeks, so pretty much did a 5 x 5 on all exercises. Will post my log in its usual spot.

The guys at the club were friendly and helpful as expected. They have a competition coming up on the 2nd December so will probably go down to watch.

The equipment in the heavy weight room there is pretty good. They have got a few squat racks (with no mirrors which is a good thing), and two deadlift platforms, then a heavy dumbell area. The weight plates are all good - no plastic or rubber s**t like in other places. AND THEY HAVE A GLUTE HAM MACHINE, which I was quite excited about - will be using that next workout.

The main weights gym is also very good. It is pretty massive, with very few cardio machines to waste space. They have a few back extension machines as well. Its such a basic and important piece of equipment, yet many gyms fail to have one. Your average gym weenie in this gym is probably more well-built than I have seen in gyms in the U.K, and even a few of the girls were pretty ripped.

The coach they have is a guy called Robert Wilks. I was told that he was the guy who invented the Wilks calculator. Think we have that on this site?

So yeah will post lots of photos soon as well.

Take it easy.

Easy now fellow squatters!

Went to see one of the Australian football teams today with one of the sports doctors.

Apart from seeing them train and other medical stuff, I got to see the gym where they train which is also shared with the Victorian institute of sport which in turn has its own athletes train there.

Guys their gym was awesome. Really impressed with the stuff they have there. Its really depressing that our gym is lacking in so much stuff. Manchester, as one of the biggest and best universities in the country should have a good university gym - there is no excuse!

Some of the stuff this gym had:

- Couple of benches

- Some power racks

- Some freestanding racks? (basically platforms with two poles on which to place the bar).

- Reverse hyper

- Glute ham raise

- Couple of back extension machines

- A sled

- They had a place where you can basically sprint whilst pushing a shopping trolley, putting plates in the trolley to make it more difficult etc.

- Dumbells must have gone up to about 60 - 70kg although I didnt get a good enough look.

- A big step which was basically a box on which to do stepups.

- A shallow pool for rehab etc

- Ice plunges

- Other cool s**t

It really made a nice change to see an absence of gym weenies. All the people there (as athletes) were doing good functional stuff. There were even a couple of girls doing heavy posterior chain stuff amongst things - shattering the myth that if a girl touches a weight she will instantly look like a shot putter.

The only place like this that I have seen near us is the Total Fitness gym near Wilmslow. I am really tempted to join it. Bargain rate for students as well - about 25 quid a month my friends have told me. Dont want to be a traitor to sugden but it seems like too good an offer now!

Hope your all training hard and making progress. Its difficult to train out here and I was missing it today watching all these people lifting!

LGB,

You look as much a shot putter as Rick does a Kenyan marathon runner.
