![]() Member 2216, 2243 posts | I dont think 18-24p/litre extra is going to be putting anyone off fizzy pop. If they really wanted to cut sugar consumption this way make a 2ltr bottle the same price as a pack of cigarettes. Still, its regressive nanny state bulls**t however you look at it. He has probably only stuck this in the budget so that it gets talked about instead of missed debt/defecit targets and the wholesale privatisation of schools.

nothing to hide, please follow my life on webcam Member 255, 3732 posts | I think it's good in so far as it acknowledges sugar is a problem which is a step forwards from all "traditional" calories are the same view. However if all the sugars simply end up being replaced by artificial sweeteners I wonder if there will be any real benefit.

The whole anti-aspartame things appeared a little conspiracy theory for me. Could be legit though. Also aspartame is less calories ![]() Anyway it's rare that I drink the stuff so I'm sure I'll be ok.

Member 899, 11368 posts SQ 180, BP 132.5, DL 190502.5 kgs @ 118kgs UnEq | The best way to make someone well paid under you look bad is to ask them to do a job without the resources they need to do the job. Then you can change that person someone in your mates company who pays peanuts. Then you can reap the rewards from the saved wages as you take a "donation" from their now much richer company. If people dont like it they can lump it.....or maybe not as they are paying for the service with their hard earned money. Nothing like a bit of corruption.

nothing to hide, please follow my life on webcam Member 255, 3732 posts | Just because something is privately run doesn't mean it's corrupt and just because something is publically run doesn't guarantee it is run better/properly. Our Council sacked the headmaster and then deleted/altered evidence. The NCTL threw out the case against the headmaster without even considering it finding the Council and it's auditors wholly unreliable and seriously at fault.

The reverse is also true. Percentages of good or outstanding maintained schools are currently similar to those that have been converted to academies. They are fixing a problem that doesn't exist by giving away public assets to the private sector. Good read on academies and free schools here... www.lrb.co.uk/v37/n09/dawn-foster/free-schools
