Thanks mate glad you picked up in that purposefully not taking stims or using nose torque even the music I listen to is chilled try save if it for comp and just go alot on the day

This is something iv thought a lot about recently. I try to listen to really laid back sludge most of the time and only listen to throwdown when I really need the adrenaline

Good to here jack I don't think there's any other sport where people get so fired upto trainin been reading and watching a lot of old ed coan, kirk and goggins stuff and there theory behind getting stronger and getting better at powerlifting don't go hand in hand kirk recons he wasn't stronger when he won the worlds 6 time in a tie he was just better at the sport

This is how I approach my training.. I don't fire myself up any more like I used to when lifting in the gym/garage. I've read that you shouldn't do it, especially when working upto a daily max single or set. So no heavy loud music or salts.

I will at comps though!

I've recently stopped the psyching up. I save it now for when I'm going for a new 1rm.
It loses it's effectiveness if you do it all the time I reckon.

Re pre-lift antics, do whatever suits you I say. I used to train with an IPF lifter who used to bark (just like a dog) at the bar (generally for squats), then rattle the f**k out of it before unracking. He did this every work set. He'd also regularly bite me and shout abuse generally directed at my mother along the lines of 'this lift is what I promised her when I was in bed with her last night' !

He was a very good lifter so got away it. (Went to IPF worlds a few times, and pulled 301 in the old 100 class as a junior)

By day he was a lab geek, literally finding a cure for cancer and in the evening, he'd turn into this monster. That's how he liked to think of it and the antics helped him believe.
