I don't fire myself up any more like I used to when lifting in the gym/garage. I've read that you shouldn't do it, especially when working upto a daily max single or set. So no heavy loud music or salts. I will at comps though! | ||

Re pre-lift antics, do whatever suits you I say. I used to train with an IPF lifter who used to bark (just like a dog) at the bar (generally for squats), then rattle the f**k out of it before unracking. He did this every work set. He'd also regularly bite me and shout abuse generally directed at my mother along the lines of 'this lift is what I promised her when I was in bed with her last night' ! He was a very good lifter so got away it. (Went to IPF worlds a few times, and pulled 301 in the old 100 class as a junior) By day he was a lab geek, literally finding a cure for cancer and in the evening, he'd turn into this monster. That's how he liked to think of it and the antics helped him believe. | ||
