What would you guys say is the base level static strength Required to compete in amateur level strongman?

I know most will say it's not about static strength and more about the events however there must be a point were someone would potentially no rep most events

From what I've seen I would say

Novice
Log 90-100kg
Deadlift 200-220kg

U105
Log 110-120kg
Deadlift 240-260kg

Opens
Log 130-140kg
Deadlift 280-300kg

Those are pretty much the minimums and a lot more would be required to be competitive

Thts about right, alot more lighter novice/beginner comps around now where I'd say you can get away with 180 dead and 80 overhead

150/300 for opens really

160/340 is possibly becoming competitive in opens

180/360 is national level

200/400 international level

I dont think deadlift being double overhead is right tbh, I think 190/400 is more applicable, same with 170/360

Lol i had 170/300 at one point...

I suppose if the pull is hitched strapped and hoovered you might be right!

Do you consider a 200kg log more impressive than a 400kg pull?

If you are talking about strongman, surely a 200kg log must be more impressive than a 400kg pull. How many of the world's top twenty strongmen would ever fail a 400kg deadlift? One or two? Lots can and do fail 200kg logs.

I know what a "hitched" pull is, I know what a "strapped" pull is, but I have never heard of a "hoovered" pull...is it dust free and spotlessly clean?

As rule of thumbs go I don't think pull / log = 2 is that far off until you get to top class levels.

I looked at the ratios for the top 14 lifters that I could get figures for, and the averages are

- deadlift 434kg
- log 203kg

Which is a ratio of 2.13:1

If that ratio follows across the board, you'll end up with something like-

LOG DEAD LEVEL
120 260 Novice
140 300 Regional
160 340 National
180 380 International

Oh, rolling the bar towards your shins before lifting. It goes hand in hand with suit use.

I saw a lad called 'Toby DYSON' do it once, and called it hoovering ever since.

I know Dyson make powerful hoovers but surely not strong enough to deadlift more than Ed Hall. Even with straps and a suit...

True, but you never know what with their recent cyclone-technology.

It still amazes me that the same man invented not only the Dyson but also managed to build SkyNet and the Terminators*.

* Which, if it isn't the name of a Band, it bloody well should be.

That was Miles Bennet, and I don't think he build terminators. Skynet built them as infiltration units Wink
