pretty much. less stiff ones give you more revolutions but stiffer ones are more cast-like

Received the Volts yesterday and have to say they are frickin awesome! However I do think they should be supplied with a free pair of sunglasses, or at least a warning on the outside of the box they are rather brightGrin

Would the Black Oxide bar be alright if used for squatting and deadlifting with weights up to about 250kg? Don't do any of the Olympic lifts and use blocks not pins for pulls from the knees, and can use an old s**tty bar for pin presses, just want to be sure the bar will hold up to that kind of weight fine as can't really afford any of the the powerlifting specific bars right now.

We generally don't recommend going about 200kg on the black oxide bar. This is probably conservative, but we prefer to err on the side of caution. More info on the bars suitabilities etc in section 10 of the T&C's - https://www.strengthshop.co.uk/terms-conditions

I note you only mention the Texas and Okie bars for 250kg + in the link, what about the Perpetual Powerlifting Bar? I was box squatting with 220kg today so the black oxide might not be the best use of my cash if I'm liable to bend it in 6 months... Would love a Texas but just can't spare that much cash right now as I'm half way through my PhD and skint.

Thanks for pointing that out, it was written before we had the perpetual or power bars in, so have added some info in about the recommendations for those two.

Perpetual bar good for up to close on 300 we'd say. Deadlifts are generally ok. When the bars are loaded for squats, and sitting on a rack for periods of time is when they're more vulnerable.

The Black Oxide bars are great for deadlifting but will not stand up to being dropped from overhead too much, for squats up to around 200kg no problem either.

Luke and Shane love deadlifting on them at ours...

We also have two Spring Steel Shaft bars...

These are getting a lot of abuse in our Cross Training suite but have been great so far, here is Shane using one the other day...

Thanks for the links/feedback on the bars Ben and Luke, much appreciated. Really helpful to get some info on how they're standing up to the heavier kind of use. Maybe we've become a little too cautious about our recommendations! Happy

No problem at all, glad to hear you're happy with them.
