Starting training for the Scottish U90's in March and one event is stones for reps.

Been thinking about these as I have limited experience.

Couple of questions really,

Duck tape on arms or not?

Bare chest or tshirt?

Try them all see which feels best but for me stone for reps , t shirt and duck tape and if it's warm weather somthing under the duck tape like welding sleeve or somthing as the sweat will f**k the tape up

I like to use tape in training and bare arm in comp , saves your arms from getting ruined or picking up skin infections from regular training but means theres no worries about tape ripping in a comp run which can effectively end your stone run.

I always wear a T shirt but I do use a belt for stones , know a lot of boys who go beltless have issues with their T shirt getting stuck to the stones so go bare chested to avoid this, trial and error and see what suits you best Happy

What ever feels comfy.

If rough stone Id chalk, if smoth Id tacky-also depends on how strong your arms are. Tacky if any doubt.

Also, if you can beltles do, belt restricts me but I do have a strong lower back.

I would also train with the next stone up spo that I would have not trouble with the stone on the day. eg if it 110 then train with the 120 for reps. This is the Ahola way!

As I say, what ever works for you and good luck.

I like this idea of training with tape and competing without.

I've always done them with a t-shirt on as i don't fancy ripping half my chest hair out with the tacky, i tape my t-shirt down at the sleeves and round my waist and i don't get too much hassle with it getting stuck to the stone.

T-shirt always for me. Not a fan of stone/tacky hair removal method.
Tape for repping but I have been known to use a pair of elbow sleeves pulled down which works well.
Also beltless works best for me, and tape the bottom of my t shirt down helps.
Just find what works for you and you are comfortable with.

Cheers for the replies and advice guys, much appreciated!

Just in from doing the stone.

I've got a 125 stone, used tape and wore a t shirt. Tape worked really well, no problems with t shirt, and tacky was easy to apply after heating it for a bit on the radiator.

Only problem was the stone itself. Brand new stone which is smoother than glass and covered with condensation! Didn't have a dry towel handy so struggled to get the tacky to stick.

T-shirt and bare arms... but this is through laziness rather than trial and error Happy

Don't suppose you have a driveway or garden with chuckies, you could try rolling it around on it to roughen it up. Failing that a good scrub with a wire brush.

Bare chest and bare arms for me, feels much more in contact with the stone which is a positive for me. My technique involves a dob of tacky between my tits to stop the stone spinning as I'm a slow stone lifter.

T shirt and bear arms loads of tacky, don't heat it up too much in comp your body temp will once it's applied

Re a belt. I use my rebrand back support under my T shirt (don't wanna ruin it with tacky) but also duck tape it on

Also leave the stone smooth. It'll help if you get dusty stones in comp

I wear a vest and taped down neoprene forearm sleeves with tacky. I also tape my vest at the back so it's tight and baggy bits don't get stuck to the stones.

The best advice here though mate, like all aspects of training, is trial and error. Try all methods and find what works best for you mate.

Doesn't hurt to find out all methods though, best of luck pal!
