Well, as i said in an earlier thread, I've entered the comp at Dumrfries on September 13th, why I don't know, never done any strong man specific training before and have ridiculously skinny legs, so started doing some more strongman orientated stuff today. Nothing too crazy, only have 6 weeks or so to prepare so just concentrating on all round strength really, just doing the comp for a laugh and experience really! Hard to fit any serious training in with doing 15 hour night shifts lately but what the hell here goes:

26/7/2008 Saturday

Shoulders

Warm up behind neck presses:

1 x 50 kg for 15 reps
1 x 60 kg for 15 reps
1 x 70 kg for 15 reps

Behind neck presses:

80 kg for 12 reps
90 kg for 10 reps

Behind neck push presses:

100 kg for 6 reps
110 kg for 4 reps
120 kg for 2 reps.

Have pushed a little more than this in the past but have had a lay off of about a month due to elbow tendon tear which hurt like fook , thats what I get for trying heavy dumbbell presses when I've never done them before! Still hurts like hell at the minute, especially in my forearm so weak as piss relatively.

Front presses on smiths machine

90 lb for 15 reps
114lb for 15 reps
140lb for 12 reps
200lb for 8 reps
240lb for 5 reps
280lb for 2 reps

Again struggled a little, lighter ones were comfy enough but heavier ones felt really heavy, pre injury could push about 310 lb for 4 reps. Damn injuries and lay offs! And long hours at work! And bloody heat! And last nights pig out on junk food!

Seated machine presses, log press type of grip

5 x max weight ( 80 kg I think ) for 8 reps

I had a go at a few dead lifts just to see what the weight felt like bearing in mind I've never trained legs or back really.

2 x 100 kg for 8 reps

2 x 200 kg for 4 reps

1 x 255 I think for 1 rep

Not bad workout really, but know I have more in me based on previous stuff, just a case of getting back into it.

Onto either chest or back the morra not decided yet, probably chest to get me head back into it for a bit posing in mirror lol!

Medium weight chest workout today.

50 kg for 40 reps warmup flat bench press.
2 x 60 kg flat benchpress for 15 reps
1 x 70 kg flat benchpress for 15 reps
1 x 80 kg flat benchpress for 12 reps
1 x 90 kg flat benchpress for 10 reps
1 x 100kg flat benchpress for 10 reps
1 x 110kg flat benchpress for 8 reps
1 x 120kg flat benchpress for 6 reps
1 x 130kg flat becnhpress for 4 reps
1 x 135kg flat benchpress for 2 reps

Still struggling with me right arm at the minute so taking the edge off trying to do anything too heavy.

5 sets of max stack on chest press machine for 15 reps to finish.

Not too bad, first chest session for about 4 weeks since resting up me arm, stil a bit stiff in the shoulders too.

Back tomorrow!

Did a couple of single rep deadlifts too with 200kg then 220kg.

Back today, felt pretty good, no particular probs, legs tomorrow.

Pulldowns to chest:

not sure what weights I did as on a stack, just kept adding them till the full stack was on

2 x 15 reps with quarter stack
2 x 12 reps with half stack
2 x 10 reps with 3/4 stack
2 x 8 reps with full stack

Behind neck pull downs

2 x 6 reps with full stack

Seated rows

2 x 15 quarter stack
2 x 12 half stack
2 x 10 3/4 stack
2 x 8 with full stack ( about 130 kg I think )

Not sure what this exercise is called, its where you lay belly down but inclined on a bench and pull weights from floor towards you, like a row really I suppose, like an inverted bench press ( bench pull? )

2 x 40lb for 15 reps
2 x 80lb for 10 reps
2 x 100lb for 6 reps
2 x 120lb for 4 reps

Bent over close grip rows:

1 x 35 lb for 15 reps
1 x 70 lb for 15 reps
1 x 105lb for 12 reps
1 x 140lb for 8 reps
1 x 175lb for 6 reps

I don't usually do back so just finding me feet ( back? ) with it.

All I used to do in the gym really was flat bench presses, behind neck presses and dumb bell curls so trying to add new stuff to broaden my capabilities, no good just being pretty strong in chest and shoulder pressing in strongman!

Aye, I've never trained specifically for strongman before, but I find high volume with medium to heavy weights helps to give a bit of extra steam when pressing the heavier stuff. Time will tell I suppose! Just wish this bloody elbow tendon problem would sod off. My body is typical pretty tall guy, skinny legs, reasonablly wide shoulders and thats about it, so adding legs and back etc is bloody hard going doesnt seem to be enough hours in the day! Respect to everyone who does total body regularly rather than just tshirt posey muscles like haha!

Legs today, glad I'm sitting not doing much at work for the next few days, legs are like jelly!

Just took it relatively easy today, as said before my legs are weak as fook so don't want to do owt silly and risk an injury, just steady away:

Leg press machine:

1 x 150lb for 15 reps ( I think, not sure what machine without any weights on it weighs, so guessing )
1 x 200lb for 12 reps
1 x 250lb for 10 reps
1 x 300lb for 8 reps
1 x 350lb for 6 reps
1 x 400lb for 4 reps

Leg curls:

Not sure of weight, just added more of the the stack per set

1 x 15 reps with 1/4 stack
1 x 12 reps with 1/3 stack
1 x 10 reps with half stack
1 x 8 reps with 3/4 stack

Leg extensions. again not sure of weight

1 x 15 reps 1/4 stack
1 x 12 reps 1/3 stack
1 x 10 reps 1/2 stack
1 x 8 reps 3/4 stack

Squats:

1 x 15 reps with 60kg
1 x 12 reps with 70 kg
1 x 10 reps with 80kg
1 x 8 reps with 100kg
1 x 6 reps with 120 kg

Just experamenting at the minute, training legs is new to me so will see how it goes, will probably do more of the same next time with more weight and less reps.

God damn my legs hurt today! In a good way if that makes sense. Needed the wife to fasten my shoes for work! How do I add a picture so that my log doesn't have a question mark next to it?

Chest again today:

Couple of sets of press ups to warm up

2 light sets of flat bench presses
6 x sets medium weight flat bench presses 15-10 reps with 70 - 110 kg
4 x sets of heavy flat bench presses 8 -4 reps with 120 - 160 kg

5 sets of medium weight incline presses on smiths machine 80 - 130 kg

8 super sets of machine presses 10 reps adding 2 plates each set.

Not a bad session today, went shopping afterwards though and leant forward to pick something off a shelf and felt a pop in my hamstring. Hurt like hell at the time, still a litle sore at the minute, hope its nowt too serious. Will find out the morra when I do back and dead lifts, fingers crossed.

Shoulders today. TBH I did more talking than training today. I started with some behind the neck presses which were bloody painful on me elbow/forearm as well as my right trap for some reason. Me whole bloody right side is painful at the minute, not good, hope it passes soon as getting me down. Did some decent behind neck push presses though got upto 120KG or so. Not awesome but not to bad. Finished off with some light seated presses. Think I'll do shoulders again the morra as don't feel i had a good one today.

Still smiling though!

Did a bit of everything today, mainly shoulders again as I did them rubbish yesterday. So I did a load of standing behind neck presses/push presses starting light ( 50 kg ) upto heavy ( 130 kg ). Then some relatively light front presses seated. Then I got ropped into doing chest again as me buddy was doing it, so had a medium chest session too. Finshed off with some bicep curls, all in all, I'm bloody sore now but thats a good thing eh!?

Legs tomorrow, was going to do them today but hamstring still a little sore.

Shoulders today. Did loads of behind neck presses, started light then added weight till I could do no more! Thats what its all about. Then front presses on smiths machine. Feel weak as piss all down the right side of my body and everything hurts a bit too. I dunno, must be getting old, just wanna keep it together to do one comp!
