So iv been Reading starting strength and rippetoe keeps makin the point that he is not a powerlifting coach and that what he is advising is for general strength training.

Can anyone suggest wat would be changed for powerlifting training.
E.g. He advocates heels shoulder width apart for squat but ses powerlifters go wider, y?

Any good books people could suggest for more powerlifting specific training?

if you are a novice (which the book is aimed at) just do the program as is, you can always adjust your technique to a more powerlifting friendly style in the run up to a comp, you still need the basic strength building (assuming you are a novice) i know a few people who have had cracking results with this stuff

It will work but the best way to learn a sport is to find those who have more experience with you. Finding a local powerlifter/strongman/weightlifter and who is relatively accomplished, following every single thing he tells you, will trump any books/programs as a beginner.

Posting videos of you lifting and getting constructive criticism will help you learn.
