How should you squat?

After today I tried to squat in a PL style by sitting back and trying to get the glutes and hamstrings to engage felt weak and weird in sitting back

So I'm in two minds about squatting how I normally do and work on the hamstring and core strength, or continue to squat by sitting back and getting the weak areas stronger.

Now I'm and very quad dominant squatter where I get the glutes involved in the upper 1/2 of the squat.

What should I do?

When you're training in the gym why not train the weak areas? This should strengthen your 'easier' style come competition day or 1rm testing?

My squat is s**t mind you....

Could always do 1 day of each?

I don't think any style is better or worse - just what you can comfortably and safely do. Unless there is a clear advantage in something (e.g. learning a pl squat that you feel will give you a competition advantage), you're better off having a consistent run with your usual style than spending weeks trying to learn something else and having some poor sessions.

If you mean squatting badly is rather effeminate, then I may agree with you there.

Rupturing your quadriceps with 300kgs on your back isn't.

However, I can completely understand why your relationship with the squat may have (temporarily) changed.

Yeah whatever is comfy. Shoes make a lot of difference I think. And if you wanna change styles then.it's nothing that some perseverance, stretching and stuff won't solve!

Thanks for the replies Guys..

As for the squatting I think I'm gonna do what I feel is best and that the style have have been doing, I'll just focus on the assistance exercises more, especially the Hamstrings and core work, I'm going to try and make something for doing reverse hypers as I think it could be a good movement for me in delta ding the spine and isolating the glutes.

For me, an oly style squat feels a lot more healthy for my back, knees (and everything really) than pl style.

Oly squat feels more of a natural movement TBH. Maybe I had a off day on my thinking that PL squat would be worth a tryUnhappy
