Where are you based mate? You are eligible to compete in our Forces Strongman comps as a member of the Reserves

Portsmouth, but I live in basingstoke so I don't get down too often - tbh I mostly catch them over in tidworth for trade and pirbright for shooting.

Is it Wednesday afternoon stuff mostly, or are there weekend comps?

Are there association/club fees?

Can I get paid, or at least claim fuel? I went to a navy powerlifting comp a few years back out of my own pocket but duty rumour is it counts as duty if it meets some (mythical) criteria

Claiming money back for anything is pure hassle, I went to Austria and could of claimed for my food money back, only problem was my food was 12 pints a day.

what was the club in colchester? The windmill?

Molly Mallones was the pub and Fagins Den was the club underneath, just by the train station.

I was training with a PTI in the marines reserves last year. Fit as a fiddle and strong as an ox. Very impressive combination of cardio and strength.

Unfortunately as a relatively new sport in the Forces there is no funding for individual athletes expenses, we only get funding for kit and equipment at the mo. That being said though, we are a recognised REME sport so if you have an MT department you should be able to get duty transport using our admin instructions as your authority.

The majority of comps are held on Wednesdays and because I'm based in bristol the majority of our comps are held down south. As a REME soldier you will be classed as 'on duty' whilst competing.

Drop me a pm with your DII address and I can send you more info matr

In the 80's (after he'd come out the army himself actually) he had the Oliver Twist and my Grandad had The Bakers Arms, both in Colchester.

Just make sure to fit a decent height/width restriction then, I've seen some drive throughs you could park a bus sideways in
