I need to decide what to do now. I either do the 2K tomorrow or wait till Sunday to get the extra day rest. Part of me just wants to get it done tomorrow, but the sensible part of me knows I should probably wait till Sunday. I don’t really want any excuses though so I’ve probably just talked myself into doing it on Sunday when hopefully I should be a bit more fresh.

It probably doesn't take a genius to work out that Sunday didn't go as planned.

I didn't feel great, but I tried to do everything right. I'll put what I did and then some thoughts afterwards...

Sunday

C2

Warm up 1
5 mins 1098 2:16.6 18

Warm up 2
10 mins 2558 157.2 27

2 km attempt
Stopped after 1k.

I went out pretty fast. I did about 8 big pulls and saw a 1:18 on the monitor. I was ahead of my pace slightly after 700m and started getting those thoughts that you don't want to get mid-row. I managed to block them out, slow down a tad and carry on, but when I got to 1000m, they thoughts came back and I just put the handle down. I was bang on 1:40 average pace when I stopped, but I just wasn't feeling it.

I was properly hungover on Saturday, so that could have played a small part, but otherwise it just wasn't there. Disappointing.

I spent most of Monday sulking about it and wondering why I hadn't improved, and then realised that I just need to get stuck in more. So...

Tuesday

Squat
140kg x 5, 5, 5

C2

Warm up
10 mins 2458 2:02 26

TR 3 x 3, 3 MR

3 mins 891 1:41 31 162
3 mins 891 1:41 32 189?
3 mins 865 1:44 35 162

First rep was fairly comfy, second was good graft, third was really tough. Not sure what happened to my HR readings on the second rep? It was up over 210 for a while!

Wednesday

Wide grip chins
BW x 12
+1`0kg x 10
+20kg x 8

Seated press
50kg x 12
70kg x 10
75kg x 8

C2

Warm up
5 mins 1200 2:05 23

UT1 3 x 12, 2:30 rest

12 mins 3246 1:50.9 22 153
12 mins 3135 1:54.8 22 153
12 mins 3006 1:59.7 23 142

The first two reps were done at the top end of UT1 and the third at the bottom end (140 - 145). I'm pleased I kept my SR lower than recently on these.

I'm sorry that the 2k row attempt didn't go to plan, but it's nice to have you back. Without you and your weight training, there is almost nothing to stop me getting sucked into full time rowing!

Bad luck Sparrow, it can be pretty mentally harrowing in the mid point of a 2k. It has to be said though, no way I could do a proper 2k attempt the day after a hangover, it would just be asking for trouble. It's bad enough totally fresh, rested and ready for it! Good to see you are strait back on it again, I'd plan your next attempt a few days after a big session though Grin

I second this.

A 2k max attempt is short enough to require ungodly amounts of effort, and long enough to give you plenty of time to think about how much you hate it!
