Even nice and lean sporting a six pack at 15 stone, 16 years old I snored my head off. As I have gotten older and larger my snoring has progressively got worse to the point where now it is full blown Sleep Apnoea. Currently I have had to stop training, I am no longer recovering, I wake up feeling as shattered as I did when I went to sleep. I can fall asleep at anytime, any place, and was so close to falling asleep driving on the motorway the other day it was so scary. I momentarily fall asleep at work around 10 times a day and it's really starting to take it's toll on my health Blood pressure has gone from 130/80 to 156/95 in just 2 months of it getting worse. Rather than f**k about waiting forever on the NHS I have decided to go private and so hopefully sometime this week will be having my sleep study and getting sorted with CPAP. Does anyone else suffer from this? Anyone experience with CPAP? heard it can turn your life around in extreme cases, especially those suffering for a long time without ever realising. Untreated its some scary stuff, I found this read particularly interesting on the subject : http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/a-killer-nights-sleep-obstruct... I have suffered with it quite a bit, untill I lost 4 stone, and I'm fine, although I can't sleep for other reasons. I had to go to a hospital and stay overnight with all sorts of wires atthached. I still have the cpap machine!

Member 1487, 53 posts SQ 255, BP 180, DL 280715.0 kgs @ 107kgs Eq | My wife suffers with her breathing at night and uses Otrivine nasal spray before bed. I've started snoring quite bad recently so gave her spray a try. It made a big difference and really opened up my airways. It's worth a try.

Found myself running downstairs trying to get the missus to do the haemlich manoeuvre, f**king seriously scary s**t. Turns out my airways had been completely collapsing and was taking perhaps 30 plus seconds after waking for my airways to open and start functioning again! Thought I was dying, was scared to go to sleep some nights.Tests done and found that I was waking up up to 60 times per hour, sleep was effectively pointless, felt like s**t permanently. Anyway got a CPAP through NHS, they acted pretty swiftly cos it is a major big deal. For months I could only manage to wear the mask for 2 to 3 hours a night but still felt better for it. Took about 9 months to really get to grips with it and now I'm getting 6 to 8 hours a night with it and the difference is massive. Never had any choking episodes since, thank god, hope you never have to experience that. All Docs reckon it is neck size which drives the risk. Anything over 17 inches and the risk is significantly increased. Amount of soft tissue whether it be muscle or fat, doesn't matter, it's the weight of the TISSUE which narrows the airway. Even pro rugby players get it so there ought to be no stigma (even though I have a fat neck). Met a guy from the U.S. at world masters bench press who uses CPAP I think it is really a lot more common than people might imagine. Oh and apparently when I'm wearing it I don't snore either, it's a f**king miracle machine, mouth gets bone dry but there is a gentle whirring from the pump which is quite soporific.

No word of a lie, swimming is an amazing sport for building a lean base. As soon as I learnt to drive at 17 however I shot up to 18 stone and haven't seen my abs since!

I've started snoring quite bad recently so gave her spray a try. It made a big difference and really opened up my airways. It's worth a try. I have tried something similar before which worked for about a week, it helped reduce the inflammation of the soft tissue that vibrates when you snore. After a week however the spray started to irritate it instead and caused inflammation itself so I had to stop using it. Gotty- that's pretty much how I'd read it with regards to neck size (mines 20") it doesn't matter whether your jacked and tan or soft and pale it's the weight that's the issue. I've only had a few proper scary instances so far, by far the worst was when I tried a mandibular advancement device, its like a double gumshield which keeps the mouth shut and pushes the lower jaw further forwards therefore maintaining an airway however it wasn't always effective for me and so if I did have an apnoea my body was trying to gasp for air but the bloody thing in my mouth was holding my mouth shut! I literally woke up on the verge of passing out and had to tear the thing out my mouth before having the most hurrendous gasping fit fighting for air. It's not a pleasant sensation at all, especially when your still half asleep and don't know what the f**k is going on!

I lived in venice in my teenage years and would regularly swim the waterways as a means of daily transport* *Complete lies No John, i'm only 6ft mate What's so hard to believe about a 15 stone 16 year old with visible abs? My Dad used to keep me on a strict diet of oats, chicken tikka and methyl-tren. Jokes, Seriously though, I was a right athlete in my early teens, I played centre in rugby league to a decent level, I was lean and seriously fast, I have absolutely no recollection of what sort of league I played in, I just turned up and played but regularly we played the Junior teams to the big superleague names like Bradford Bulls, Leeds Rhinos, Gateshead Panthers, Castleford Tigers etc So you know, I was decent like. I was regional champion in Discus for several years on the trot. My dad had a home gym and so I started lifting weights at age 10 much to my mothers dismay. All things combined with reasonable genetics and a f**k load of training and I was a fit, lean 15 stone at 16 with abs! yes! My downfall was college when I discovered that driving like a dick, f**king 16 year old girls, getting pissed and eating pizza were much more fun than training and so a few years out to enjoy the finer things in a youths life put me on the path to been the strong yet semi fat mess I am today

Member 3126, 626 posts SQ 270, BP 160, DL 280710.0 kgs @ 140kgs UnEq | I was near 150kg at my heaviest and not particularly strong for it. Had sleep study done (turns out I was waking up 70 odd times / hour) and was diagnosed. CPAP made big difference, wasn't tired at all during the day. But having a face mask on every night, cutting your nose, neck strap digging in, sore throat from dry mouth etc. get's old fast, and made me determined to get off it. Currently down to 128kg or so, and only using the CPAP 3/4 nights /week.
