What's the best way to build confidence to go down under the bar as fast as you can

I feel like I go real slow on purpose? Just can't stop!

Shane, I've found the only times I've ever hurt myself on snatch, it was when I was too slow under the bar. If you drop to the bottom and catch it there, the bar just seems to get out of your way safer if you miss it forwards or backwards.

Therefor, convince yourself it's safer?

I find warming up with lots of drop snatches, building up the speed gradually, really helps when I go onto snatch. I throw in some with an empty bar between snatches as well, just to get used dropping down super quick

I am of the opinion that overhead squats do absolutely nothing for the snatch, if anything they could be counterproductive as there will be very little speed on the descent as you feel for you positions. Snatch balance all the way for what you need!!!

I agree. Heavy overhead squats are generally a slow movement. Sure, they may help build confidence, but not speed under the bar.

Personally, I don't think even snatch balances help in getting under the bar quickly as they isn't really that transition between the pull and getting underneath it, plus the bar position is completely different (obviously).

I think plenty of reps with 75-85% of your 1rm should build up confidence along with knocking the power snatches on the head . Full snatch, full snatch, full snatch.

I love hang snatches for this. I know there are tons of people who hate them but for me they have worked a treat.

Hang from below knee and high hangs too. Just wonderful Happy

I'm still crap at them, but hang snatches give me alot of confidence to get under; I've not realy gotten on with snatch balances.

Snatch Balance/Drop Snatch whatever you call it.... never helped me drop to the bottom, as I found if I was fast enough I could catch it on fully extend arms and not even drop lower than a half squat. If you want to ride it down to the bottom after catching it high, it's not really any different from an overhead squat. A very high hang with the bare minimum of drive upwards on the bar is the only thing that forces me to drop straight to the bottom.
