Still mostly bodybuilding Member 501, 10465 posts SQ 220, BP 150, DL 250620.0 kgs @ 94kgs UnEq | Were getting Sky HD installed on Monday and ive just been looking at the list of HD channels which isnt as extensive as i thought but its only an extra £10 a month so why not. Has anyone got Sky HD and do you know if non HD channels will be any better quality due to running a digital box through a HD TV or is there are any cables etc that i need to consider.

No one believed him anyway. Member 958, 11411 posts SQ 410, BP 215, DL 4251050.0 kgs @ 100kgs UnEq | you'll want to get a hdmi cable for the full benefit. I know component can also carry full HD signals, but i'm not sure about scart which is what your sky box will connect to your tv through (most likely) if you're not using a hdmi lead. I've only ever seen the HD channels on virgin media, and I was pretty disappointed compared with blu ray. Let me know how it is, because if it's any better on sky i'll probably get it...

Still mostly bodybuilding Member 501, 10465 posts SQ 220, BP 150, DL 250620.0 kgs @ 94kgs UnEq | Cheers Tom. Ive heard about these HDMI cables - gonna wait until they have installed it then get one. Someone told me that ill get a slightly better picture quality on non HD channels due to the HD box running through a HD TV and if i get the HDMI cable then that should complete the package. Ill let you know what i think of the picture quality when its done.

I personally prefer the stiffest possible. Member 158, 3110 posts SQ 170, BP 107.5, DL 222.5500.0 kgs @ 67.4kgs UnEq | I am not convinced the HD is truely worth it as theres not a massive amount of it. I watched some tennis in HD which was good. Also the big viewing BBC programs are usually on the HD channel as well which is nice.

This makes no sense as you still have to use your s**tty low def eyes to watch the hi def tv. My only conclusion is you watch HD with your heart, not your eyes.

Member 1082, 153 posts | Get cheap HDMI cables. Don't buy into the con that you need to stump up big cash (some can cost £100!!!). There was a test on the gadget show not too long ago and they found that all these top end hdmi cables provide no visible or audible difference from cheap cables. I got some for £2.99 from home bargains and they work a treat. I have Virgin media and more and more HD channels are coming through now. You have to remember that some channels are dedicated HD (bbc hd) that show only HD programmes and don't reflect the normal BBC shcedule. Then there are some (channel4 hd) that show everything that is on normal channel 4 whether it had been filmed in HD or not, so not every programme on ch4 hd will be in HD. Eventually I think eveything will be filmed in Hd. It seems to be taking off a lot more recently.

Just to back this up, HDMI cables are digital - which means that they transfer lots of little 0's and 1's. An expensive cable does not make the 0's bigger or the 1's more shiny - You either receive the entire signal or none at all. The result is, if you get a picture on your TV with a £3 cable, it's never going to be made any better by using a £100 cable (colours / detail will be exactly the same) - If your cable is faulty you will get signal dropout and the picture will break up (think sky tv in a snowstorm). The cable companies should be ashamed of themselves Macca

please use accurate taxonomy in our communication Member 871, 469 posts SQ 240, BP 137.5, DL 262.5640.0 kgs @ 89kgs Eq | It's a great choice - although it will spoil your enjoyment of non-HD sources... With a decent TV, the first exposure is pretty amazing. I'm no Sky apologist, but their HD offering is the best in Europe.
