I like British weather. A cross fit gym sounds like a good idea they charge the most.

Thanks for all the input chaps much appreciated.
My goal is to open a facility with a gymnasium just being part of it. The way I turned my gym around is through applying to a particular niche aspect of how a facility works. A lot of our customers have been taken from the DW next door and one other commercial gym and I believe I could do this in my own facility which is one of the reasons I'm game to try.
Cheers again for all of the input Happy

What would be your expectation for earnings from a privately owned facility. I have no knowledge at all in this area.

A standard commercial gym within a budget chain would look to make around £550,000 EBITDAR from around 6000 members.

Hiah.
A gym with that many members is considered a very very large business. I was looking at the 1 to 2000 member angle starting on a pretty small scale as it seems to be the most viable type of gym right now. Going head to head with the big boys is very difficult as people trust the brands so much. in my experience though, this is what is causing the bigger gyms to run into problems right now. I worked off this angle in the gym I run At the moment.
There are a few ideas I have and want to put into practice thatll again perfect my customers experience.

I'm not looking to be super rich from this. I want to pay the bills whilst having fun at work and be able to put a little by for later on. Overheads aren't overly large when you hire the correct space so I should really begin to make profit quite quickly. I've no Interest in a big boom type of plan. I want a slower burning and more reliable source of income.

P.s. I have a rotating metal night for customers on a different day of the week each week. I like it very much Happy

Believe it or not it is something thats on my "potential to do" list. Its a very difficult thing to achieve from the other end of the city but I'm working on a potential solution.

Good luck with it m8.

maybe lease the gym equipment at first?

Or buy the equipment second hand.

Bare minimum in my opinion : -

2 power racks and 2 x chest press racks ... These are always busy in all gyms... and not too expensive to buy.

I train in 2 gyms (1 pay as u go the other membership),

1 is amazing and alot of money has been spent on it(the whole complex was .... £35 million !! and is the bollox - 50 metre indoor swimming pool, football pitches etc) with hammer strength kit galore..

But it doesn't have normal fixed chest press benches, or hammer strength shoulder press or hammer strength pec dec (use this for isolating my rear delts)- so i travel elsewhere for that.

However they do have 10 x hammerstrength power racks with hammerstrength platforms..

The best gyms I've trained in tend to have "core" equipment , and very heavy dumbells

If you have a good gym people will travel/pay - but also it can be "seasonal" for the average joe - getting fit after xmas and getting fit for summer hols.

That's a pretty special gym. There aren't many 50m pools in the UK.

The pool also splits in 2 (when needed - 2 x 25m) and is chlorine free - they use something else i think! Happy

The only thing that pisses me off with the place apart from some pieces of equipment missing - idiots on the platforms time wasting messing about with the power racks not doing "real" training...

There are alot of average joes in the gym with a few hardcore trainers and a high level rugby train there as it's that good (they travel 25 miles each way to train there)

but the average joe doesn't know how lucky they are to have that gym/complex

Cheers for the input again gents. believe it otr not one of my facilities has 2 fifty metre pools and a 25m pool. Check itout, Tollcross leisure centre.
The racks and bench racks are a good call. The weights stuff would llikely be second hand Alex kit which is very reliable and affordable. Dumbbells of course. Would likely have 2 okie bars and a couple of olys as well.
Again, thanks for all of the input.

Whereabouts Chris? After a little bit of ill health and time away I've got back in the gym but the same old surroundings, people etc is becoming tiresome.
