IPF Press Release

Termination of the suspension of the Russian and Ukrainian Powerlifting Federation on 1st of September 2007

The IPF Executive Committee has discussed and reviewed the Anti-Doping reports of the Russian- and Ukrainian Powerlifting Federation in Thisted / Denmark and has decided to terminate their suspensions. The Russian-and Ukrainian Powerlifting Federation can participate at International and regional championships beginning 1st of September 2007.

Both federations have a probation period until 31st December 2008. If only one lifter of them is doping positive at an international or regional championship or OCT-test carried out by the IPF the concerned federation will be suspended again for one year.

Both federations must also enforce their Anti-Doping program including OCT-tests of their international lifters and must send as hitherto reports about their Anti-Doping program to the IPF General Secretary.

Detlev Albrings

IPF General Secretary

Wow! Wonder what went on behind the scenes to bring that about? Thought you only got your sentence reduced if you cried incessantly all day and all night.

That's true, I've no doubt drug taking is very prevalent over there but at the same time it's a shame that some of the most talented lifters in the IPF haven't been able to compete. Some of these Eastern European guys train very, very hard and have some brutal routines.

Besides, a lot of guys at the very pinnacle of IPF must take their fair share of drugs - point in case being Ed Coan.

All very political. There's some good stuff on powerliftingwatch at the moment about it at the moment. I think the IPF realise that they can't have all their top lifters suspended all the time for the good of the competition. Makes a bit of a mockery of it though.

IPF make a shock move and go untested !!!

wouldnt the IPF have all their lifters guaranteed clean and mabie not hitting as big totals or are they mabie thinking 'were gonna have to let a few thru the net'

It dosent take a rocket science degree to figure out you just need fast acting testostrones or ones that arnt tested and your be fine. Also if your useing peptides your laughing.

There's more info on this over on the BWLA Forum. Sorry, don't know how to post the link. I'm coming round to the view that the IPF made the right decision.

The russian and ukrainian federations were unable to provide evidence that they were performing tests at all. International testers turned up at their nationals and tested them and there were a huge number of failures which resulted in the ban for the federation.
The trouble with trying to "beat" the tests is that you need the support of a laboratory. Bearing in mind it costs at least 150 to do a test its unlikely that you will find many that do this let alone have the budget for a designer steroid.
