Picked up my first training injury today. Doing a heavy fathandled dumbell and tweaked my back pretty bad after axle deadlifts. Gonna get to feel what that rehab's like for myself now :/

Happens sooner or later and with varying frequency to us all!

Things are fine, been busy the last couple of years house hunting, job hunting, learning to drive, family needs, although still training with less intensity, was why I put competitions on the back burner for so long!
Been through a lot to be honest, finally settled in a new house and a proper job, picking up training again, slowly, want to ease into the heavy stuff slower so as to avoid injury, had too many! Recently got through rotator cuff issues both shoulders plus pec and worst of all,' a broken ass' basically sacrum illiac joint coupled with piriformis and IT bands. Shoulders on the mend, big rep work coupled with lots of upper back has turned this around so benching starting to be decent. Due to the broken ass still not being 100 percent, still uncomfortable to squat and pull, although making slow progress. No immediate comp plans, will only commit when I know I've got a good 3 months injury free before an upcoming comp.
How have you been? Still doing strongman? How's Robert still unstoppable I'll bet!

Think we're getting too old for this, we're falling apart! Haha . I've got a trapped nerve too and can't seem to sort it. I just seem to go from one injury to the next.
Aye still pretending I'm a strongman. Had planned a return to powerlifting this year but the trapped nerve has put a stop to that. Rab's training is still going well, I think he's doing IPF euro's this year and looking to do 800+ total.

I agree with you each time I start and each time I finish training, that thought goes through my head every time! Where is your trapped nerve and how did you do it?? I too would like to return to the platform, injuries permitting! Rabs a fookin machine, don't think I've ever heard of him ever getting an injury! Whens the IPF Euros and what venue??

Good to hear from you.

My trapped nerve is at the periformis muscle same as you. I'd been getting numbness etc down my left leg for months then one day woke up in agony and could barely walk for a few days, have spent the last 2 months trying to stretch the muscle and stop it contracting the nerve. It's getting better every week and have started back training the last 2 weeks so fingers crossed I can sort it.
f**k knows how Rab does it as he never does a warm up before training or any stretching(he has next to no flexibility). Think it may have a lot to do with his very simple training......squat, bench & dead lift with only a couple of very light accessory stuff and he never stays at his top weights for long periods. Also he's convinced everyone on Scottish powerlifting Facebook site that he does something like 10sets of 10 reps on squats etc haha....he does nothing like that! Think euros is early on in the summer in the Czech Republic????

Also with Rab you have to remember he's took at least 18 years to get to the numbers he's doing were
as we done it in a lot less time which must take its toll on the body.

I've been powerlifting since 2002 so a good 10 years, before that was commercial gym training you know upper body, no squats or deads of any description, went nowhere, biggest improvements when I understood what that old man who got me into it tried to tell me for years, train basic compound and heavy. He said I had the flexibility for olympic lifting but it didn't interest me as much as powerlifting!

Tues 22/01/13 warmup stationary bike 10 mins

Back squat high neck: 70kgx5, 120kgx5, 5x5x155kg

Bench press: 60kgx5, 80kgx5, 2x10x100kg, 1x9x100kg, 1x8x100kg, 1x7x100kg

Progress slow, injury getting less painful, I can now put socks and trousers on with minimal pain, think I squatted best when I did twice a week, once high neck, once low bar. Realise need to take low bar slow as started only two weeks ago. Want 5x10x100kg bench then will move on, keeping a rep day the other day will be heavier less volume. Hope pulling on midweek won't affect things too much, time will tell.

Sat 26/01/13 stationary bike 15 mins

Back squat low bar:

2x10xbar,

2x5x70kg,

1x5x120kg,

3x8x140kg

Bench press:

Barx10,

60kgx5,

2x5x90kg,

3x6x110kg, 2x5x110kg

Chest supported barbell rows;

60kgx5,

2x5x80kg,

4x5x90kg

A decent enough session was not in the mood for heavy squats so worked on reps, technique and lactic acid and respiratory tolerance-need to do more of this will build volume gradually. Benching getting better, had setup issues, will keep working on it, volume up since last week. Supported rows would eventually like to get to working sets with 100kg however hard with wider grip trying to use upper back primarily.

Good Banter with Weigieboard and Danny! Breaks up the monotany of working hard, anyone walking past the open doors what must they think when we are winding each other up with subjects such as Geraldine, sweetcorn, nutella, peanut butter, BBW porn, porn mags and Dannys sticky pages lol!!

Dude your benching was mega today good work. Squats were strong also. You'll bag the tens quickly I reckon.
Banter was excellent even on a quiet day it's good in there. Danny getting pissed off was amazing.

Those rows look like theyre moving forward quite nicely.
We all seem to be hitting the quads lately don't we. I was doing backwards prowler drags yesterday because I cant squat and those hit the quads a little.
Looking forward to getting back in not this saturday but next saturday. Unfortunately it's more upper body.Still, I'll be able to spot you if needed Happy
