![]() Does f*ck all for SugdenBarbell.co.uk Member 1, 7173 posts SQ 182.5, BP 110, DL 205497.5 kgs @ 107kgs UnEq Administrator | Received an email from an old-time lifter, Eric Redfern, discussing his old training partner. I think Eric is nearly 80, so it's great he took the time to write in, so I wanted to share it on the forum. ------------- I have the privilege and pleasure of being ron collins trainng partner , fellow competitor in both olympic and power lifting for 15 years, i was instrumental in coaching Ron to become an army cadet force PTI this ran alongside him becoming a part time teacher for manchester education committee teaching and training budding olympic and power lifters, i rember just beating him very narrowly in a power lifting competion, my one and only claim to fame.and proberly one of the few people who have ever beaten Ron a memory i will treasure along with our freindship for as long as i live.. I lost contact with ron after his move to south africa which i bleave he became extremly sucessful in a number of areas, I have many happy memories he is a great guy and its a privlage to call him my freind.. eric redfern. --------------- Sounds like Ron Collins was a great lifter - found the following article on him: http://ditillo2.blogspot.co.uk/2010/03/ron-collins-terry-todd....

He was great, his best lifts were around 350 200 355, done in a marathon squat suit and crepe bandage, what would he have done with modern kit 400 260 370?

I could look it up but it would take a while.

Also the super total thing is cool I'll trawl through my 20 year collection of magazines then. From memory it he didnt lift anything amazing, I think the snatch was under 300lbs and clean and jerk under 400lbs at 75kg bodyweight when he was a wler.

In fairness these are pretty good weights (depending how far under they were). We're talking Jack Oliver territory which isn't all bad.

Lost his pen, then found his pen. #phew Member 4899, 2907 posts | As I recall he was a very technical lifter, always looking to add kilos...he was one of the first to arch on the bench, for instance. A true Powerlifting Great.
