Lol at this! Ed Coan is about 5'4" and he competed at various weights including 110kg (actually 239 lb, so around 108.4kg) if memory serves...

Maybe, but he was four stone heavier and a lot shorter than the dimensions being suggested for Rob (93kg at 5'6"), so I reckon Rob's frame can handle a bit more size...

My sentiments exactly Shane. Maaaaaaaaaybe Coan was on? I'm pretty sure Ed was caught on 4 different occasions? I'm sure Rob could be 93-95kg, but thats a world of difference between being a weight and being a quality weight.

Your Coan facts are not quite right, but it's not relevant anyway as he has a much larger frame than Rob who is proportioned fairly normally.

Fair enough. Coan claimed 5'6 in his book I think, but yes, much thicker. Perhaps alittle growth factors into the equation haha Grin

5ft6" and 93KG should be easy boys TBH

Boar is a very solid 97kg @ 5ft7"

Rob,

Great write up for anybody interested in the pre-comp preparation and what goes on in the mind of a lifter. Glad to see you elite guys have similar anxieties that I get - I'm going to add "Panic Level" to my logs.

Having close competition is great. Use the rivalry constructively - focus on how you can get bigger and more consistent lifts, and exploit whatever tactics allowed during the competition.

You'll know when you are ready to go up in weight category.

... yes and Boar likes special K for breaky :]

Seiously though yes 93kg would be fine for Rob. However is is pretty well muscled for a tested guy and there's no guarntee he'd be more competitive at 93.

Shame about weekend Rob. Bombing sucks for sure. Now at leas you can join the club!

Getting a little too heavy and having to sweat out bucket loads just before lifting is one of my least favourite things to do Unhappy

Some real positives to be taken from the squat though Cool

Cheers Macca, thanks for feeling my pain mate!
Squatting felt real good on saturday, everything from perceived weight on my back to positioning, knee flare it was all good.
Get yourself a squat suit mate, please you would love it. You could set such a squat record. If I end up having it, it doesn't do it justice.

Brilliant squatting to start with , gutted that you bombed out on the bench , really s**tty way to lose out to Tom after all the banter thats been going on.Onwards and upwards to the All Englands , hopefully the best man will win on merit this time.

Thanks mate, looking forward to the all englands, 8 weeks to go!

Cheers everyone, I think personally I would really struggle to get that heavy without changing to a different style of training. Pretty much topped out at 86-7 and just got fatter! Theres still a few areas that could do with a touch more muscle though but I think I am in the middle of the weight classes naturally. May go into the English heavy but will wait and see, just want to get stuck into some training.

It's a shame that maybe the strongest weight class in the country has been a little bit overshadowed by handbags. As I said to you both yesterday, your piss-taking genuinely upset Tom (and I absolutely believe you didn't understand how much), and his angry response has clearly upset you. Wouldn't have built up like this in person where tone of voice comes across.

I hope you can both sort it out - powerlifting is too small a pool to have people inside pissing in it. There are enough people outside trying to piss in it already.

Hopefully I'll get to see you lift one day - it's always been on the wrong day for me at the British!

The 3 squats were as good as any I've seen. Better luck next time putting it all together Rob!
