I am 40 in not too many weeks (WillSan, we the same age?).
Spent most of my time dabbling with strength training, then not comitting because I love combat sports too much. Being a full natty brah, combining them isn't realistic.
Now, I have none of that kind of time and I'm too injured to do much more than occasional sparring or padwork.

But, I do have a squat rack in my garden and I think I'm finally gonna get a bench too. The only competitive option I see now, is powerlifting.

Help me here.

Is the IPF (and thus British Powerlifting) the only and best organised natty set up locally?

Can you lift under more than one banner or more than one membership at a time?

Should I just forget the whole competition thing and just juice up, film my lifts and post them on instagram?

Haha. Man, I did truly think about it many times. I ended up tearing my knee (at work) and took up some extra study which well and truly left me on a timetable and mobility shafted.

Strongman is easily the best strength sport in my eyes.
Is the giant already a lifter or somebody you are nurturing?

I'm surprised how little PL is discussed on Sugden.
I'm not particularly statically strong, but was always mobile and fit.
If I get good knee recovery and can ease up time, I will text you. Might be 0200 but it will happen.

Yeah. You did yours too a while back?

I have good health cover with work but gotta get my ass moving to get it checked now.

I'm 129.4kg before a poo so he's a big lad. I'm slightly taller but I was 30kg lighter at that age.

That's really something!

Be worth a visit to see how the younglings train.

IPF/British powerlifting is the way to go. IMO
I became a member in my 40’s so did a few comps as an M1 u83 or u94 weight dependent.
There wasn’t many masters competing in the regional comps I did so I was lumped in with the other age groups. So I got massively out totalled bu the young uns, but beat the few older ones without having to be very strong. Lol.

I’m still training. But I’ve been training around a knackered ankle for years and years so giving it a break from squats and deads atm. Might compete as an M2 (over 50) 4 years. :-)

Edit: I’m u83 M1, something like 175, 125, 220 was enough to beat the few masters I went up against. But at the same comps, the best senior u83’s we’re getting more like 260+, 160+, 250+ So a big difference.

My advice would be go to a couple of comps (if you have not) and see what you think.

I have always lifted with The IPF lot on and off since 1999. They are probably the least FUN

You will need to cough up membership entry to the comp and an IPF leotard so looking at maybe £140 notes just to lift some s**t infront of 3 refs.

IPF can be a bit "stodgy" the old guard I call them the DRUFFERS can be annoying and the new Guard even more annoying taking the rule book to extremes.

When I started there was an old DRUFFER (deceased now) who treated every comp like a world championship and no doubt put off a few first timers from ever having a second go.

@6'5'' perhaps you should try rowing

I am 6ft5 and 11/12ths. This is metric facts.
I was good at the conceptII but I have a squat rack in my garden, rather than a river 😁 haha

£140. What kind of world is this? You know, whilst the old guard may be boring old farts, I can smile at them and show them love. We will all be old (druffers?) one day. Attending to watch is a good shout. I should take notes.

I used to competed in the IPF and BPC at the same time. I had "threats" of them testing me at an untested competition, told them i'll be there and of course open to out of competition testing, but they never tested me. I just looked up the "Ed Coan rule" which is 10:11, which states that if a lifter competes in another federation that has a banned lifter, they will also get banned, but this has been lifted. IPF/GBPF tends to have the most lifters and competitions, with BDFPA being the only other tested fed in the UK that I know of.
