still a devious weightlifting bastard Member 43, 14374 posts | Post Edited: 24.09.2015 @ 17:16 PM by little_a Not another Davie Cameron thread, but just wondering if any intrepid Suggers have done the USA coast to coast on a Harley thing? If so is it best renting, or buying/ selling at the other end? Looks to me like the latter, but the former has all the comfort of being pre sorted and insured etc. Any other pros or cons?

still a devious weightlifting bastard Member 43, 14374 posts | Early days Andy and a way off at best. I plan on having a mid life crisis next year, but it could go on a bit in fairness. Also looked over shipping my own bike to/ from over there. Couple of issues though - it's not really much cheaper, and I don't have a bike.

My 1700cc MT01 kicked the ass out of any Harley I've ever ridden in looks, sound and performance. Video for anyone interested For an epic journey such as this It'd be VMAX all the way for me!

Hyper obese Pete Member 70, 17870 posts SQ 322.5, BP 205, DL 300827.5 kgs @ 133kgs Eq | I was always under the impression that a "hog" had to be a Harley Davidson*. Anything else was merely a motorcycle. You're only going to do this once, may as well get it right. *Largely based on Hunter S. Thompson's book "Hell's Angels"

I believe you to be correct on this Pete, although technically a HOG is usually in reference to the person who is a member of the Harley Owner Group the term is frequently used to describe the machine. Also agree with your latter statement. Route 66 on a German or Japanese bike wouldn't seem right.

nothing to hide, please follow my life on webcam Member 255, 3732 posts | I love the idea of riding coast to coast or Route 66, but the few people I've spoken to who have done it (although in a car) have said quite a bit of it is a bit boring and it's only the last third or so that gets interesting. The Pacific Coadt highway and west coast if you travel inland a bit has some absolutely stunning scenery.

Good luck with it. Best reply. A mate of mine did it by buying off an approved dealer and prearranging with a dealer at the other end that they would take the bike off him. He lost 1.5k on it but was happy enough as that was less than the rental would have been. A Dyna or a Fat Bob would be the way to go. Big comfy seats, usually with back rest. The trick is to get off route 66 to see some of the oddball stuff. www.blacktopcandys.com car rental had some fun maps and places to stay if your looking.

Help me rescue my Insulina. Member 5366, 1090 posts | I wouldn't be so bothered about it been a Harley or not as long as it is equally or more awesome I don't see the problem but I understand the whole stereotypical 'hog on the 66' type thing. If it has to be a Harley then like luki says go Dyna or Fatboy. For the love of f**kity f**k DO NOT do it on a faired Road King, just so wrong.
