I haven't competed yet but if I was to compete it would be at the 80kg mark , I am looking at doing a comp around October time in the gbpf what would be a qualifying total for me ?

You'll need to compete at a regional event and hit the qualifying total there, to qualify & compete at the British in October.

I really don't understand the fuss regarding qualifying totals.

If the totals are lower, more people will be interested because of the chance to qualify for a national championships. For people just starting out, qualifying for a national is a big goal surely?

The same strong guys will still win, they'll just be first in a field of 10, rather than a field of themselves and 1 of their mates.

I feel the same until we have at least 6-8 in everyclass we can't afford to turn anyone away the sport is just so small no one wants to win by default

Also from a spectator point of view gbpf comps are starting to get pretty exciting a lot more battles between lifters bigger crowds louder music and projected score boards all add to making the sport apart more viewer friendly

Despite the low totals, there were still only two 105s in the juniors last year. Which meant I was in the unique position of coming both 2nd AND last lol. Not to mention over 100kg total separating me from the other guy! If the qualifying total had been a few kilos higher I wouldn't have even been at the competition!

The calendar year that you turn 23 is the last year you're allowed to be a junior.

i could totally easily qualify for nationals in my weight class junior.

Only problem is one of the guys i train with has already qualified for the same class and outlifts me by 20-30kg on every lift.
