Are there many gyms in the north west that cater for powerlifters?
i know of adlington and i train there when i can but as i have started a new job im not going to be able to get there as often as i would like and as i train on my own in a none powerlifting enviroment im unable to use my shirt etc as often as i would like

Does rhinos gym have alot of powerlifters?

catts is by the M58/M6 interchange (orrell) rhinos seems to have a thriving powerlifting community from what i could see

whats this new job then, surely you have now worked for every employer in the NW ?Grin

Althought not ideal don't totally discount training by yourself. From reading your journal Paul I sometines get the feeling that if you can't get to Adders you often write of your session before its begun or go and do some half assed training.

You can get some solid training in by yourself in a commercial gym, and you can make good progress. Training squats and heavy benches can be a little more tricky as can the wearing or equipment but that doesn't mean you can't have a good session. I do 99% of my training on my own in a commerciall JJB and its not al bad. IMO it has hurt my squats a little but apart from that its all good.

its just an agency, i have probably worked for at least half of the places in the north west, i got layed off/sacked from my last place when i burnt my leg with acidEek, they said i was not up to the job so they were not giving me a contract but i think it was just incase i claim against them they can just say i was incompetent which is not true as i have a unblemished driving record and how many people who drive 60k miles+ a year can say that

tony i dont do a half assed training sesh if i cant get to adlington i just change it slightly, i dont do any stuff for size when i train at adlington but i do when i train at my normal gym as i dont just want to look like a fat powerlifter, maybe it might hold me back a little but its what i like to do and aslong as im making progres in both parts im happy

Half ased probably wasn't the best description. It wasn't meant to describe your effort level more the structure/exercise selection.

I don't think I look like a fat powerlifter and I place no emphasis on training for size at all. Trying to toss up between bodybuilding and powerlifting imo is always going to hurt one or the other.

i know you dont look like a fat powerlifter but if i didnt do other stuff i probably would, i could probably structure my work out better, drop some exersize and still get what i want, i dont want to get to 7% bf etc just have some good size in my chest, shoulders, back and arms

I agree very much with this. I do all my training in commercial gyms but I don't think it holds me back. Getting injured is what holds me back. As long as you have some kind of expertise to draw on (e.g. online) and a good source of motivation (and that can just be yourself) I don't think it matters where you train (equipment permitting obviously). 1RMs on bench and squat can be a pain sometimes but I find I can usually catch someone I know to be reliable to spot me.

My training has definitely suffered since I was "dumped" by the boar Tongue
Jonny trains at 3 in the afternoon nowadays and its impossible for me to make that time. I've tried to get back into training at home but its just crap after training with a proper partner in a proper Gym. If anyone wants to train in or around Blackburn, either at a Gym or in my garage give me a shout.

Thanks Bryn, cheers for the offer. I would struggle to make your training time with work commitments ( I work till 8 Wednesday and Thursday and I work Saturdays ) but now you mention it I think I know a couple of lads who train at Pro Bodies, I think I'll show my face and see if I can fit in with someone there.
