Hey sorry to ruin the flow of Wayne on the front page, this thread may be s**t enough to fit though. Grin

Doing my 2nd run of philipi coan routine and nearing the end so hoping for 200kg next week. Anyhoo both last time when I got near max and this time I feel a strange sensation in one pec as though it's about to tear. Its the side of the underhand grip if that is anything to do with it.

Is this common at all or does anyone know what it could be? Never done much max DL before these coan cycles so nothing to compare to. It is worrying me a bit because it feels on the verge of doing damage

You could solve the issue by having the pecs surgically removed. You don't need them.

I've gotten pretty bad cramp in one of my pecs from DL before, and I know some guys have a hard time deadlifting heavy after a pec injury. Never heard of any actual pec injuries directly from DL, but I really wouldn't be suprised if someone's pulled or tweaked their pec in someway.

I'm pretty sure some guy from Iceland (Benedikt Magnusson or something) who is OK at deadlifts warned that overtraining deadlifts had an increased risk of pec injuries. I think he may have torn his pec doing deads.

Could you not do some double overhand stuff when you're warming up or try to use DOH for max attempts?

Sorry everyone. Don't follow this advice. Kirkynick sent me a message telling me off for suggesting it

DOH is all I did last time and it still happened :s

Possibly related note I just remembered, this pec has been slightly bigger than the other for aslong as I can remember. Maybe it's floating away Eek

It happens to me but its right across the whole of my pecs and shoulders. All the skin tears too and you can see the bleeding under the skin. It only happens on a max single though.

Pretty common, moreso with Conventional.

Just another reason to pull Sumo!

My best guess it's just a consequence of straining while your shoulders are rounded forward.

Pulling the upper back hard might counteract it but on a maximum effort it might be inevitable anyway.

Put your arm out straight palm up

Squeeze your hand hard

Your pec tenses
