Lost his pen, then found his pen. #phew Member 4899, 2956 posts | A quick Google search shows it was the 2002 IFSA Super Series final in Hawaii - he did three reps with 500lbs to tie with Pudzianowski and Savickas. I was drinking pretty heavily back in those days so I am pretty surprised that memory still exists.

He also does a lot of cleans I believe...and as Andy mentioned, his recover strength is really quite far ahead of where it needs to be. I wonder if the front squats he does are more directed towards his jerks. He seems to go down as far as he can while remaining COMPLETELY vertical and underneath the bar. It's kind of like a really long jerk dip and drive.... That sounds like a good shout. It also makes me laugh that he often starts returns the bar to the rack whilst he's still standing up...

Member 2775, 6927 posts | Post Edited: 10.09.2014 @ 17:14 PM by PaulSavage Thats not the only thing though, what if i was doing front squat as an assistance exercise to back squat that i had in a comp as i was going too far forward/lack of core strength - surely it would make sense to do it wide stance and to the same depth?

Member 1307, 14110 posts SQ 355, BP 240, DL 370965.0 kgs @ 102kgs UnEq | Don't see the problem with front squatting in wraps tbh Jay does and no one tell him it's wrong . Front squat is just a squat with the bar in front of your swede so don't think it matters if you have a belt on or sleeves or wraps or briefs . Will still build strength just as a back squat would with wraps or knee sleeves. I've seen a lot of powerlifters do them in wraps. Lilly etc. Unless savage has just started a revolution ?

I would guess the thumbless record is less than 200kg. I can't recall of any grip competitor being able to do more thumbless but maybe if they have relatively weak hands but strong wrists from previous arm wrestling. I would guess my thumbless is at least 30kg less than with thumbs. I definitely can't do as much thumbless, but can see how it may benefit people with smaller hands.

I know some comps have used an axle front squat for reps - there was one many years ago with Svend Karlsen... England's 105's had axle front squat for reps a few years ago.
