Has anyone got any experience of this , Ive been diagnosed with a 7mm tear in the tendon , competed in Wales strongest man back in June and felt my knee go on the 2nd event log press , finished the comp but with a lot of limping and pain , had it x rayed 2 days later and there was a small bone chip in front of the patellar , had to wait 6 weeks for an MRI and when I saw the nhs physio a couple of days ago he had the written results , he cant tell if the tear is horizontal or vertical , seeing the consultant Monday and he will have the full results , apparently if its vertical I may get away with resting it but a horizontal tear will almost certainly require surgery as it will be almost a 3rd of the tendon width.

Just wondering if anyone has recovered from a similar tear with just rest or if you have had the surgery what the recovery time was , also physio could find no mention of the bone chip on the written results so still dont know if this was a piece of bone that came away with the tendon or something else , heads in the shed right now and contemplating a long lay up either way Unhappy

Ive been squatting to 80% 1rm since the injury on the advice of the physio and he still reckons I can train legs but im gonna wait till Monday to see what the consultant thinks before risking any further damage.

is the physio one who specialises in strength sports and stuff? 80% of a 1rm seems pretty high for someone with an injury of that nature. maybe not for your average person who squats 70kg as a 1rm but for you, yes.

not that I am an expert or even have ever had anything similar myself

Hes pretty switched on to be fair and has an interest in strength sports but I did think the same as you when he told me , I had a feeling he thought it was just tendonitis he was treating and the bone chip was incidental , saying that though even after finding out about the tear he still told me to squat lol , as I say im erring on the side of caution this time though and waiting to see what the consultant thinks , just in case the physio hates me lol
