DrD said:As you say mate and good and bad news. At least it should be able to heal and not cause as many longer term flare ups! Glad to hear you are going with powerlifting - I'm sure I'll meet you on the platform sometime soon Cool

I'd be ultra careful with the back for the first 4 weeks, but as you say you can still bench, chest supports rows, pull downs, chins, and some leg isolation work.

Smolov Jr for bench has a huge reputation in our club for being awesome, I've not run it myself, but everyone seems to get about 5-10kgs out of it!

Cheers mate, just hope I don't lose to much on my squat and deads, they were really flying along Unhappy never mind at least there will be an end in sight as opposed to if it was sciatica.

You think Smolov Jr is a good way to go, you know any other high volume bench routines????

Thats good news then mate that its an actual injury so once fully healed you will be able to squat and deadlift and surpass them both.

Heres a few routines that might inspire you for benching mate

Or use my method were you just get under and press it lol Cool

Cheers mate, big relief tbh as sciatica has no real end to it, this is just soft tissue tearing so can be healed, doc was 100% certain it was not sciatica so pretty happy with that. Going to be odd not squatting or deadlifting for a while but needs must, in the mean time I can focus on increasing my bench Happy

Cheers mate, i'll check those links out Happy

Went to docs this morning Neil, turns out its not sciatica but I have torn the muscle around hip/lower back back in October and it keeps slightly re-tearing so need to quit squatting and deadlifting for the time being to let it heal, going to be a slow journey back but its better than never ending sciatica.

Was it just a standard GP that assessed you? I want to get an injury looked at, but not sure going to my GP is any use.

It was indeed, my Mrs booked it for me and I too thought it would be a waste of time but he genuinely seemed to listen and diagnose me properly. Also didn't just say stop training - he said stop doing what hurts, work around it and use common sense. I may have just got lucky but he genuinely helped me.

I probably need a few sessions with an osteopath/physio. But I don't wanna throw away money for the sake of it. Hmmmm off to the GP I think,

Not been in for a bit. Nice pressing mate Happy

Guess thats good news in a weird way that you know you have an injury which more than likely will heal as opposed to go and comeback.
So in a couple of months you can answer the worlds most important question, "whaddya bench?"...............170kg Grin

Bloody hell mate that makes your recent lifts even more awesome. It's good you've got proper diagnosis and thus should be able to get it fixed swiftly. It will be interesting to see how you adapted over the next few months.

Cheers bud!

Yeah not great news but better than what I thought I had, sciatica would have been worse. TBH in agony past few days but I am on the road to recovery Happy

Dunno about 170 mate, anything over 150 would be sweet!! Grin
