I have written a book on the History of the Heavy Events in Australia. It is in draft format just now and I am approaching publishers to see if I can negotiate some interest.

Until the multi-million pound deal comes through (:rolleyesHappy I am going to go down the self-publishing route - including shameless plugging of it myself online.

It covers the arrival of the first Scots to Australia and the formation of the first Caledonian Societies.

Then it covers the development of the events (and equipment) from the first Games to modern times.

It is all sourced from newspapers and books of the time (1800's onward). The Games are told through the eyes of the athletes who participated.

So, there is plenty new information on Donald Dinnie that has not been widely published before. e.g his three assault charges for fighting.

There is also some cracking competitions between Dinnie and lesser-known Australian's like Eugene Kneebone and Paddy Roachock. Accusations of cheating, near fist fights and disputes.

Plenty new information on the equipment used....caber-for-distance versus caber for accuracy is all covered as well.

Hopefully an combination of things of interest to anyyone who like the Games... as well as some things of interest to Australians. I even managed to "interview" Matt Sandford (5x Australian World Champion) who talked for hours and fed me tea and scones.

I have created a FB page to post some bits 'n' bobs relating to it as I sort out things with printers etc.

It took about a year to write and is roughly 130 A4 pages. It's a bit of a bucket-list item for me. Would be great if a few people shared the link with anyone interested in HG

I'd read that.

On a similar note does anyone know where to get HG equipment in the uk? Everything I look up is America, Canada, Scandinavia etc. Seems weird as its Scottish but no one seems to care.

To be honest, I don't think it is straight forward to get equipment. I struggled. If you have cash burning a hole in your pocket then Gregor Edmunds on FB will make it all for you.

Shot putts are relatively straight forward to get but other things need a friendly welder or metalworker and a bit of imagination unfortunately.

There was a bit of discussion here about it...

Still plugging away at this!

I had a lot of delays due to a rubbish printing company but seem to be ontrack again.

Will have 25 draft copies available by the mid/end of January for review/promotion. Hopefully I can get some high profile Games athletes to review it and say something nice on forums/fb about it.

In the meantime I created a website to try and promote it a bit

Cheers guys, I am relying on word of mouth etc to make people aware it's out there.

I was hoping kim kardashian would review it but she hasn't replied to my emails yet.

I have some advance copies for sale. Selling those for cost price ($25AUD) + shipping.
If weighs 0.6kg so it's probably a small parcel size.

Previous world champions, Matt sandford, matt vincent and Dan McKim are/have received copies for review so I am hoping they say nice things.

It's a combination of Scottish and Australian information so it's a pretty broad audience I hope.

FB page for the book...

I took the Donald Dinnie information I had, and made it in to a stand-alone amazon dowload
It covers lots of new information from Donald Dinnie's time in Australia. Including, some controversial comps he competed in, his 3 assault charges, and his weightlifting contest against Prof Miller.

all the best

James
