HUGE_GUY | ![]() | Milk is bad for you? | 29-04-2012 @ 21:13 |
Avatar not found I might destroy the planet Member 2745, 803 posts | I was told to change my diet to get rid of waste in my body to make me feel lighter/better, and taking milk out of my diet was 1 of the suggestions. Firstly the guy said milk creates mucus that is everywhere inside you, it's just dead weight and tightens you up. Also milk actually takes calcium away from bones. Few other bad things here http://saveourbones.com/osteoporosis-milk-myth/ I said i will look into it, then realised whey protein is from milk and i get 150g of protein a day from that alone. Is milk really that bad? Im talking cows milk btw, i wouldnt touch soy or goats.

Who told you this and what were their qualifications to be advising you to avoid milk? For someone to tell me that I'd want to know they've read a raft of peer reviewed articles to come to that conclusion. Firstly the guy said milk creates mucus that is everywhere inside you, it's just dead weight and tightens you up. Also milk actually takes calcium away from bones. Few other bad things here http://saveourbones.com/osteoporosis-milk-myth/ Everywhere???? Maybe within the gut but I'd be surprised if it adds up to kilos of dead weight. That website is rather bias. Vivian Goldschimdt makes her money out of getting people to stop drinking milk, selling her "save our bones program". Any animal protein source is acidic and needs calcium to neutralise it. Milk is no worse than any other protein source. She also only uses references which assist her in proving her point when it is equally easy to find articles which disprove them. I said i will look into it, then realised whey protein is from milk and i get 150g of protein a day from that alone. Is milk really that bad? Im talking cows milk btw, i wouldnt touch soy or goats. Out of interest, how much protein do you have a day? 150g on top of protein from "normal" foods sounds like an awful lot for an 80kg guy. ![]()

Avatar not found I might destroy the planet Member 2745, 803 posts | Slim, the guy that told me is a national jumps coach. There's only a few paid coaches by uk athletics and normally means they are good. I get 200-250g everyday. To keep 80kg'ish @6'0 i don't have a lot of cals, so keep protein high.

![]() Trump will get another four years Member 126, 16708 posts SQ 160, BP 110, DL 225495.0 kgs @ 75kgs UnEq | I stopped drinking it after getting a stomache bug and then decided to cut it out to see what if there were positive effects. hard to tell 100% obviously but I think I do feel better for it. enough to have kept it out of my diet anyway! its much easier to keep my weight down without it definately.

Fair enough, I don't want it to sound like I'm trying to say he doesn't know his stuff but (there was bound to be a BUT) I'd say there's a big difference between being a jump coach, even a top flight one, and a qualified dietician. I just think it's important to keep an open mind and ask where this recommendation is coming from and get evidence to back it up. Everyone can be influenced by media, especially when it's regarding something they don't necessarily have expertise in. It's like the women in the link saying that no species other than humans drink milk once they are weaned. TRUE. No other species on earth cooks their food. TRUE...nobody questions that though! I don't believe anything I'm told unless there are a wealth of peer reviewed articles backing it up. I'm a definite cynic!! ![]() 200-250g isn't actually as high as I thought you were going to say, I was expecting 300+ ![]()

Avatar not found I might destroy the planet Member 2745, 803 posts | I won't just take his word for it, that's why ive been reading up about it. I won't ask people for research papers for evidence either though, i take experiences over that any day. If Shane said he felt better then that's enough proof for me. I read somewhere loads of people are lactose intolerant and don't even realise it, 75% of people. I think it's worth a try at least, and if i don't feel better or cut any wasted weight then i'll go back to drinking milk because its more convenient and makes protein taste nicer.

That's the same arguments homeopaths, psychics and ghost hunters use. If Shane said he felt better then that's enough proof for me. Sometimes our experiences are all we have, but they're usually very unreliable for a whole catalogue of reasons. It is worth a try, and if you feel better, then you feel better. Remember though, there isn't that much lactose in whey powder, and you can get purer isolates as well that have even less lactose. But plenty of people do report feeling better after cutting out dairy, I'm not one of those people. Though I'm certain if I cut out dairy I'd probably lose some weight, that's because dairy is quite calorie dense, not because I've got some bizarre inexplicable mucus unknown to science covering all of my insides.

This is why people need to get research/scientists/papers out of their mind as being the big enemy, the big faceless entity that's out of touch with real people, their experiences blah blah blah Wouldn't it be really good, if there was a way of taking not just one person's experience, but hundreds, maybe even thousands of peoples' experiences? Then comparing it with another equally big group of people who did the opposite of what the first group of people did, and gave you their experience too just for a comparison? And even better than that, beforehand the "rules" of the game were predefined so they were objective, with participants of each group matched up to try and make the comparisons as valid as possible? Because that's what science is ps sorry for coming across as sarcastic it's just something that I see a lot and can't help but comment on
