Hi,

I was thinking of making a big batch of food and freezing it, so I have nice supply of protein/carb meals for a couple of weeks. Fed up of having to plan the next meal, or find something suitable in lunch hour etc.

Anybody else do this? if so any meal suggestions?

Do it all the time as I eat different amounts and at different times to the wife etc...

Always chicken, turkey or fish based etc... Veg I just cook fresh

Watch out for curries/chillis though; they get spicier when frozen! Grin

I do this quite a lot with curries. I make about 6-8 servings at once and it doesn't really take much moer time than just making a single serving.

ASDA also do some fairly low(ish) fat family sized ready meals. I split these into 3 servings and freeze them as well.

It's sooooo much more convenient than cooking food from fresh every evening

I spend loads of time cooking. Some meal ideas would be good so i can put some in the freezer and get them out when i need them.

Hearty stews (chicken, beef and even meaty fish (monkfish etc...) work well

Chicken, turkey and fish curries (Thai red & green curries work best with fish)

Turkey or lean steak mince chillis etc... Discovery Chilli sauce is brilliant IMO and I'm a very keen/passionate cook! Grin

Flash boiled fresh veg freezes well also so you can nuke it in the microwave with a little water in 2mins!

Get a slow cooker as well; put meal together and either cook on low overnight or whilst you're at work. I work from home but use the slow cooker all the time!

When at uni, sunday was cooking day. I made a big pot of chilli and unflavoured chicken stirfry.

Aimed for 7 decent servins of each. Then freeze 10, keep 4 out. 2 per day. At end of day take 2 more out.

Chilli was good with baked potatoes, rice, by itself, wraps etc

Chicken I could reheat in a pan with various spices. Kept cooking time to under 10 mins in most cases with no prep having to be done. And the ability to have different flavours/meals kept it interesting.

Do they contain enough meat though?? the ones I've had in the past have a few snall chunks of meat, the rest is just sauce, and you kow the meat is bound to be cheap processed meat that is mostly water.

The two I buy have got pretty decent chunks of chicken in them. By splitting each meal into 3 each portion has between 40-50g protein. I've thrown away the packaging so I can't tell you which 2 types I buy. One of them is a tomato pasta based one and the other is one that has swede and potato topping.

you shouldn't really reheat rice (unless its treated like in ready meals), risk of food poisoning

I thaught there was no risk aslong as its heated all the way through and above a certain temp

My diet is very very boring at the movment but its the easiest its ever been

Porridge oats with powered milk keep in a tub when you want to eat it add boiling water and add a tub of quark mix it all up and add your choice of flavour

Cook up loads of rice divide it into 14 tubs cook up enough chicken for 7 tubs and then have 7 tins of tuna for the rest and just get loads of diff sauces to keep it interesting

You can eat reheated rice, you just need to cool it quickly after cooking it. Put it in the fridge for a bit, then put it in the freezer.

While the rice is cooling down after being cooked, thats when the bacteria forms. If you cool it quickly (freeze it) the bacteria doesn't get a chnace to form.

When you want to reheat it, you need to make sure its steaming hot.

.....or just buy uncle bens rice
