I would hazard a guess its down to the fact he has trained with them and is familiar, i know i wouldnt want to change any kit so close to a big comp.

I am not being provocative, rather just genuinely interested in why you feel stronly about using them. friends wear them and love them but for me I cant see the major advantage over them (priced at 80+ quid) and cheap thin plimsoles (3-5 quid and without the hassle)?

Cheap plimsoles don't feel comfortable and fit your feet in snuggly.. Vibrams I imagine are the closest to not wearing shoes you can get, like socks. Hence the appeal. They are a sports shoe and I cannot see why they are banned..

Hi Glen,

As Sob has pointed out, I've been wearing Vibram's to squat and deadlift in now for every sinlge session for over 3 years - Making any changes to your normal footwear is obviously going to have an effect.

And has Mark has mentioned, wearing Vibram's is nothing like plimsoles / deadlift slippers.
They fit tightly to your entire foot, have aggressive grip on the soles and allow your to flair / curl your toes as desired.

In short my weight distribution is very different in a pair of Vibram's than it is in my Metal Powerlifting boots and it effects the way I squat.

At least I have a few weeks to get used to different footwear, but in reality, I shouldn't be having to.

Also, asides from it effecting me, the IPF is supposed to be build on integrity / sportsmanship / fair play etc and they can't even follow the most basic rules laid out in their own technical rulebook - This is annoying me more than anything and this type of unconstitutional nonsense should not be accepted on any level!

Tricep Pressdowns

Enjoyed that tonight.

Benching with the Fat Gripz is getting tough as they have a tendency to move around the bar a little - I'm going to test some singles without them next week to see if they are having the desired effect Cool

I also got to watch Dave Carter set a life time PB on the bench at 50 years old (210kg to full IPF standards) - Amazing Eek

I can see all those valid points - maybe I need to get some bits between my toes to fully appreciate the benefits but cant see it being that big a difference in those to either paper thin plimsole/slippers or something like those nike frees.

from the sounds of it ypur up against it battling their attitudes. good luck

I've already switched to my metal squat boots - There's no chance of getting anything sorted for June

Wednesday 24th April 2013 - Squats, Deadlifts @ Ralls

I'm a bit apprehensive going into this tonight....

I'm back in my Metal Powerlifting Boots as it appears that my beloved Vibram's are the Devil and I'm no longer allowed to lift in them Unhappy
So I'll be doing loads of warmup sets in the hope of adapting to the change that much quicker

Squats - Beltless up to 165kg

  • 20kg x 10
  • 20kg x 10
  • 20kg x 10
  • 60kg x 10
  • 60kg x 10
  • 60kg x 10
  • 8kg x 5
  • 100kg x 5
  • 130kg x 4
  • 150kg x 4
  • 170kg x 3
  • 190kg x 1
  • 210kg x 1

  • 232.5kg x 3
  • 232.5kg x 3

  • 150kg + Chains x 8

Very happy with that - I was having some balance issues with the change in footwear, but I still managed to get my reps in on the top sets Cool

Deadlifts

From 3 inch blocks - Beltless up to 175kg
  • 60kg x 10 (DOH)
  • 120kg x 5 (DOH)
  • 165kg x 3 (DOH)
  • 175kg x 3 (Hook Grip)
  • 205kg x 1 (Hook Grip)

  • 225kg x 3 (Hook Grip)
  • 237.5kg x 2 (Hook Grip)

From the floor
  • 180kg x 3 (Speed Work)

Very tired again for the top set, but my form still needs to be better (tired or not!)

Chins
  • 15kg x 8
  • 15kg x 8
Pendlay Rows
  • 65kg x 5
  • 65kg x 5
  • 65kg x 5
One Arm Rows
  • 40kg x 8
  • 40kg x 8

Also did some DOH shrugs for grip and a spot of calf work

Very solid session and my last heavy repping effort for a couple of weeks now.
I'm planning to do a heavy single next week on all three big lifts and very little else Grin
