Wednesday 19th.

Thanks to a lorry load of burning frozen chickens ????? on the M1 I spent about 7 hours in the car today. Consequently I got to the gym just as most people were finishing off.

Weighed in at 117.4 kilos so the recent weight loss has probably been as a result of the bad case of MANFLU suffered earlier in the week, I still have not really shifted it and still feel very bunged up and short of breath.

Bench
10 x 40 close grip
10 x 40 wide grip
10 x 60
5 x 80
3 x 100
2 x 110
1 x 115
1 x 117.5 failed at about 6" off the chest.
3 x 105 failed the 3rd at about 6"
Up to this set I was benching with Gordon, however at this point Little Pete, Kevin, Sean and Stuart joined in so the rest between sets was stretched from about 90 secs to around 4 mins.
3 x 105
1 x 110
1 x 115
1 x 117.5 came down okay but could not get it off my chest.
3 x 105 needed a touch from the spotters to lock out the 3rd.
5 x 100 needed a touch from the spotters to lock out the 5th.
3 x 90 close grip.
Dissapointed with the 117.5's, I know that I've not been well for a few days but this should be much easier. It could also be that we were using my least favourite of our 3 bench's tonight on which the bar seems to be just that bit smaller in diameter than on the other benches and the bench itself feels just that bit more like a plank than the others.

Squatting on my own - no spotters.
5 x 70
5 x 90
5 x 110
3 x 130
1 x 150
3 x 130
All full, deep squats. To be honest this was really easy and if I'd have had spotters I would have probably gone up to 165 or 170.

Friday 21st.

Had to go into the office today so did not get to the gym until late. Today was officially our last day at the Farm and the only people to turn up were Kevin, Little Pete, Dave, Ashley and Naz (and me of course) just the 6 of us.

Weighed in at 117.65 kilos, a little up but after the amount of Quality Street and mince pies consumed at the office today I'm not too surprised.

Benching with Little Pete and Kevin, DeadLifting on my own.

Bench
10 x 40 close grip
10 x 40 wide grip
10 x 40
10 x 60
5 x 80
3 x 100
2 x 110
1 x 115
1 x 117.5
1 x 120 failed badly.
2 x 110
2 x 5 x 100
5 x 90 close grip
10 x 60 close grip
Pleased with the 117.5 which was easy down, nicely paused then up in one steady motion. The 120 however came down too slowly, in the wrong place and never got of my chest. We were back on our normal bench tonight so it all felt more comfortable.

Dead Lift
5 x 70
5 x 120
3 x 160
1 x 200
3 x 160
Everyone else had left before I started these so I had a very quick session the only break between sets was the time it took to load / unload the bar, all over in about 15 minutes. So I was really pleased that the 200 came up as easy as it did. I've found that if I lean forward just a bit more than usual with my knees just about 1" further forward, I can get a much better drive of the ground and once I get the bar moving 6"-8" I can usually grind out the lift.

Our next session will be at 3:30PM on Monday (Xmas Eve). Officially we've been kicked out but as we have the keys and there will not be any council workers in until 2nd Jan, were making the most of the opportunity.

Ed, We'll be training at the Farm from 3:30 this afternoon, then most of us are going away for a couple of days. We'll be back at the Farm for a quick session on Sunday 30th, after which we will be moving out the last of the free weights and taking them to the new place at Moulton College. The following week Kevin, Pete and I will be training at Yardley on the Wednesday and Friday before we start at the college on Monday 7th.

If you come up to the Farm on the Sunday, you get a last work out there and you can give us a hand moving the weights. A van would be really usefull.

Monday 24th December.

Weighed in at 118.3, well it is Xmas and I've been partying every night since Friday and we are out again tonight, so 118.3 aint too bad considering. Xmas night at the Farm, not many in, those that did turn out all took drink and nibbles in, consequently I'm sitting here typing this rather merry. As this was the very last (almost) proper session at the Farm I took a load of pictures, but they all came out crap.

Squatting with Kevin and Stuart. Benching with Kevin, Pete the chair and Little Pete.

Squat.
5 x 70
5 x 120
3 x 150 to low box
2 x 160 to low box
1 x 170 to low box
3 x 200 stand up from rack from 200mm below normal rack height
1 x 220 as above
3 x 150 to low box
Fairly pleased with this, the low box is about 2" below parrallell. The 220 felt heavy though.

Bench.
10 x 40 close grip
10 x 40 wide grip
10 x 40
2 x 10 x 60
10 x 80
4 x 100
3 x 100 could not lock out the right side on the 4th lift
4 x 100
4 x 100
5 x 100
2 x 90 close grip. All wrong, wrists hurt, rubbish
5 x 90 close grip
6 x 90 close grip
6 x 90 close grip
5 x 90 close grip
Good volume, I was drunk before I finished though.

Must go now, wife wants me to shower and change before we go out in 30 mins.
MERRY XMAS TO ALL SUGDEN BARBELL.

Sunday 30th December.

Clearing the last of the weights out of the Farm today so despite feeling crap and fat I had a quick session.

Deadlift
5 x 70
5 x 120
5 x 120
3 x 170
1 x 190 failed badly.
5 x 150
Rubbish.

Bench
10 x 40 close grip
10 x 40 wide grip
10 x 40
10 x 60
2 x 5 x 80
5 x 5 x 90
No spotters so kept it light.

Everything felt really heavy, this was my first session since Xmas eve.

I was planning on going for 2 x 190 and then having a shot at a 210 PB.
However the 190 only came up about 12", I could have probably ground it out but the determination is missing at the moment.

Plus my weight is up around 120 so Im feeling pretty unfit as well.
