After reading that article that sounds like exactly what I had a few years back (and it reoccurs from time to time very briefly). I reckon i got it from repeatedly squatting badly, my left knee used to pull in, and not track over my foot. I used diclofenac to ease it, and saw a physio who gave me some exercises to do. One of the ones I remember was standing on the bottom step and keeping the affected leg on the step, step down with the good one and repeat for reps. Also placing a folded up pillow between the knees and doing partial squats whilst pressing the knees together into pillow. Now I squat properly and heavier than ever. If the pain ever reccurs its due to getting out of lowish cars or turning corners with heavy goddamn supermarket trollies!
I'd see a physio to be sure what it is though.
