Hopefully this log will last longer then the previous one i started.

My goals which im aiming to achieve by December 31st 2011 are;

1) Compete in my first strongman competition
2) 250kg deadlift (currently 230kg)
3) 115kg clean and press (currently 100kg)
4) 220kg squat (currently 200kg)
5) 105kg log (currently 80kg)

Training 2nd July

Deadlift;
80kg x 5 x 2
90kg x 5
100kg x 5
140kg x 5
170kg x 5
190kg x 7

Farmers;
60kg x 20m x 2
90kg x 20m x 2

Had a bit of back pain so called it a day there.

Cardio; 30mins swimming at a snails pace but i find it helps the back

Monday 4th July

Day off work so went for a mid morning swim for roughly an hour.

Evening work out of some events;

Duck walk
40kg x 20m x 2
60kg x 20m x 2
80kg x 20m
100kg x 20m
120kg x 20m

Yoke
125kg x 20m x 2
205kg x 20m x 2
245kg x 20m (bit un steady to start but further i went the smoother the run)

Tuesday 5th July

Nursing a slight bicep injury so did some light leg work.

Leg extensions
5 sets x 20 reps

Leg press
5 sets x 20 reps

Lunges
10m x 2

Hamstring curls
3 sets x 20 reps

Finished off with a swim

Hit some cardio tomorrow night then off to Sonnisphere for the weekend.

Nice to see a log mate. Get down the gym to do some logging with your namesake, if you can put 100kg overhead there is more to be had on the log than 80kg.

Bout time i joined all you boys with a training log, i was missing out!

I definitely going to be heading down to gym 1 at some stage soon. Il message James when he has recovered from Benicassim. You coming down at any stage soon?

Back from sonnisphere so needed to blow out the cobwebs.

Warm up

Deadlifts

Farmers (just for a bit of cardio)

Wednesday 13th July

Warm up on the punch bag for 5mins

Dumbbell curls (small weight)
2 x 10reps on each arm

Barbell curl
20kg x 10
30kg x 10
40kg x 10

Clean and strict press (only clean the 1st rep)
40kg x 5
50kg x 5
60kg x 5
70kg x 5
80kg x 5
90kg x 4
100kg x f (cleaned the bar 3 times but couldnt press)

Log clean and press (working on technique)
60kg x 4 x 3sets

Log felt very good, definitely try to up the weight next time.

Thursday 14th July

Bit of gym work today. Only a basic place with machines and dumbells to 30kg. Decided to do some legs increasing the weight on each set.

Leg press
4 x 12 reps

Leg extensions
4 x 12 reps

Leg curls
2 x 12 reps - hamstrings started cramping so called it a day

Cardio - swimming for 15 mins

Monday 18th July

Deadlift
70kg x 6
110kg x 4
150kg x 4
190kg x 4
210kg x 2 (came off the ground easy)
240kg x f (got it to knee height)
230kg x f

Farmers - pick up and hold
60kg
100kg x 4reps

Bit annoyed after against my better judgement chasing the numbers on the deadlift. After getting the 210kg and it feeling reletively easy i jumped up too far. Lesson learnt - small increases all the time!

Nice work, still solid deadlifting there mate, like you say don't chase numbers too much, get the ground work in.

I videoed my lifts yesterday and i dont think im getting my ass low enough to start the lift so im going to try and rectify this.

With the 240kg attempt, it came upto about knee height relatively easy but it wasnt moving above that. Do you reckon deadlifts from height would be good to help this?

Probably broke it off the floor by "backing it", and by this i mean you probably had your hips shoot up and that's why it flew off the floor, this would also have meant you (probably) would have lost thoracic extension, ie. your upper back would have rounded and your shoulders rounded forward, meaning when you got past your knee for lockout you had to go from a flexed upper spine to an extended upper spine, which under that much load is f**king difficult. The pay off for quick off the floor is usually a hard lockout and vice versa if you use leg drive off the floor.

Don't forget how much it has improved in s short space of time though mate and you are lighter, so it is pretty impressive.
