This is a question, not a biased hate statement.

I'm not lying when I say that I didn't know suited lifting even existed, until I stumbled across Andy Bolton's suited videos last year.
I ALWAYS assumed that powerlifting was simply raw. I thought that belt and knee sleeves meant non-raw. I know.., naïve.

But seriously; does lifting in multi-ply contribute toward your non multi-ply lifting? If so, then I see the point. If not, then I genuinely feel (probably risking flaming from many of you) that it's simply a cheating man's game.

I did submission wrestling; which is effectively jujitsu without a gi. Doing both though could contribute to a total jujitsu game.
Is it the same with suits? I'm assuming bench-shirts fall in the same category.

Without knowing how or why people use them, I feel dumbfounded because I assume you can either lift or you can't.

No trolling.

Thanks,

Will.

Yes, it exists solely to stroke the ego.

ive never understood the point of them either.

what you can lift is what you can lift.

if you want help, use a forklift.

I was going to simply quote Toms answer then Petes answer changed my mind.

Doesn't appeal to me but it's only as pointless as any other hobby.

And does pole vaulting exist to stroke the ego of high jumpers by allowing them to "cheat" and go higher ?

I hadn't considered that some will find it to be a lot of fun.

If you find it fun, that's a good reason to do it.

I thought that was a great point and I see where you are going but then, they are two different sports aren't they. Is multi-ply powerlifting, or is it simply multi-ply as a separate sport?

I tried a shirted bench once Pete. Finished the session with bruises, scratches and cuts all over my upper arms.
I found it to be lacking in fun. Plenty painful though.

It seems pointless to me, though lots of people seem to enjoy it which is, as mentioned, a good enough reason for them to do it.

I think the cheating came into it when they started using a bendy pole!

If having 3 men wrestle you into a suit in which you can hardly breathe and having your knees bound so tightly that they bruise is fun then I shudder to think what you have Girl Number One do to you.

True. Each to their own. IPF equipped doesn't look too bad but I'd much rather watch/participate in "Classic" lifting.

Definitely yes, but watching females do it also qualifies as "fun".
